Indoor Cash and Business Practices To Outdoor Clay, Summer Courts Our work at Pretty Brook Tennis Club has not gone unnoticed and our latest podcast with Director of Tennis at the Princeton club, Corey Ball, recounts all the advances we have pushed through on not only the tennis courts but through the management of the club and the admissions policies. One business practice that we inherited and advanced was one of prepaid clinics. Corey brought his experience from indoor facilities to the club and continued prepaid clinics from the winter, indoor court at the club out on to the summer, clay courts. How prepaid, private clinics worked and created additional revenue for the racquets department. Move over tennis! More big pickleball news today. Our May issue of The Business of Pickleball dropped yesterday and subscribers received our 2024-2028 forecast of pickleball participation. While the rate of growth slows the numbers of new players are large, leading to nearly 30,000,000 pickleball players by the end of 2028. We also forecast the number of tennis players over the same period. Our forecast shows that by the end of 2027 there will be more pickeball players than tennis players. We based the forecasts on the SFIA number for actual players over the last 5 years. The factors that make pickleball popular will continue to drive growth in the sport. Additionally, the influx of new courts, especially indoor courts from independents and franchise organization will be huge. Growth in youth and collegiate pickleball will also take off in a big way over the next five years. If you need up-to-date industry data and insights into the pickleball ecosystem you will find them each month in The Business of Pickleball. Tennis tip: Lefties use the slider outside against the righy. One of the most effective strategies for a left-handed tennis player is to serve out wide to the backhand of a right-handed opponent on the ad side. This placement doesn't require excessive power; precision and placement are key. By targeting this spot, the lefty can exploit the natural angles of the court, forcing the right-handed player to hit a more awkward and often weaker return. This takes advantage of the fact that most right-handed players have a less dominant backhand, which can lead to a higher chance of unforced errors or a shorter, less aggressive return that the left-handed server can then capitalize on with a strong follow-up shot. Also, serving out wide to the backhand on the ad side opens up the court, giving the left-handed player a tactical advantage in the ensuing rally. By stretching the right-handed opponent wide, it not only disrupts their balance and positioning but also creates space on the court for the lefty to exploit with their next shot. - This strategic serve placement can be particularly effective in pressure situations, such as break points, where consistency and precision are paramount. - Mastering this serve location allows a left-handed player to control the point right from the serve, setting up a more favorable scenario for winning the rally. #tennis #tips #collegetennis #sportsbusiness #startup

Have a plan for your return of serve, and your success rate will increase. There will be scenarios where you have to hit emergency-type returns. However, when you have an intention, while you might not always be able to execute it, there will be times when you can, and that’s where you get the crucial breaks of serve. An excellent and thought provoking session with Mindflick. Whether it’s the team events, individual coaching or networking events like this, always helpful to self and team development 🙌🏼 I can thoroughly recommend for all my connections in the corporate world. #mindflick #superstrengths #mindset
Executive Chairman at Mindflick, Executive Chairman TTB Sport Capital - Founder of The Ruth Strauss Foundation
“I taught my boys to play tennis, not hit balls” Such a pleasure to talk with Judy Murray as part of Mindflick’s ‘Unlocking potential’ client breakfast. Her insights on raising two sons to go on and be worlds best in their respective formats of the game of tennis in the same year was truly fascinating. Ultimately, it was her focus on understanding her boys unique strengths and differences that led to them identifying the super strengths that would serve them well at the highest echelons of the sport. A big thanks to all at Mindflick for putting together the event, especially Philippa McGregor , Katie Ludlam and Mark Bawden for their insights. Huge thanks also for all our clients and friends who came to support the event.

Today's topic is membership capacity in pickle ball, tennis and golf clubs, a crucial aspect during the previous boom in membership in golf and tennis. Golf courses operate based on available tee times, while tennis clubs rely on court reservations. Many clubs have transitioned to membership-only or hybrid models, prompting discussions on the data used for capacity planning. One club mentioned that each court could accommodate 80-120 members, highlighting the importance of optimizing space efficiently. Pickleball clubs, seeking players who tend to play longer and even twice a day, raise interesting considerations for capacity management. What are your thoughts on this evolving trend in club memberships and the strategies clubs are employing to maximize capacity while providing an excellent experience for members

It was probably just a matter of time before tennis and pickleball clash..."The U.S. Tennis Association says that 10% of courts in America have been taken over or repainted since the pickleball boom began." Here in Toronto, I've seen a few public tennis courts painted with yellow pickleball lines, so it isn't a takeover or a repainting. Doubling a court for tennis and pickleball is a good use of limited resources, but more importantly it provides an opportunity for pickelball to grow and people to be more active. Now, we just need a professional event or a Major League Pickleball franchise in Canada to really accelerate the sport's growth here. #emergingsport #pickleball #sportbusiness

At 16, I was released from the world’s top soccer academy. Tough pill to swallow, and seeing this blunt headline splashed across the local paper didn’t make it any easier. Rejection sucks, no way around it. But setbacks like that test your character and force you to level up. Resilience is a superpower, especially in sport and sales. Every missed shot is one step closer to a goal, and every "no" gets you closer to a "yes." Rejection humbles you. But proving the doubters wrong is what fuels you. #sales #businessdevelopment #sporttosales

Beyond the roar of the crowd, the flash of cameras, and the million-dollar endorsements, there's another side to professional tennis—a world where the stakes are higher, the rules are blurred, and the price of winning can be your soul. Outside the gilded cage of the top 200, the relentless grind of the tour becomes a financial meat grinder. Travel, training, coaching—it all bleeds a player dry. When the money runs out and the pressure mounts, desperation sets in, leaving athletes vulnerable to a whisper that promises easy money: match-fixing. Tennis, a global sport swimming in many millions of dollars worth of bets, is a prime target for corruption. At the lower levels, where the lights are dimmer and the scrutiny less intense, the game becomes a rigged casino. Players take dives, officials look the other way, and shadowy syndicates pull the strings, raking in obscene profits. BreakPoint Tennis: Monte Carlo rips back the curtain on this dark underbelly, taking you on a white-knuckle ride through the world of match-fixing, seen through the eyes of Ethan Carter, a rising star who gambled with his career and found himself trapped in a game where the only way out might be a body bag. #tennis #tennisbook #ebook #tennisintegrity
