DIALECTIC OF LAYERS [Design Process Workshop] ▪︎| RHIZOME CITY The vertical development of cities and high-rise constructions causes many problems, including traffic, increasing air pollution and reducing wind circulation. Our proposed solution is horizontal urban development. The main concept in the design of the horizontal city in this project is the shear object theory in architecture. Based on this theory, we consider the city as an independent element and all the components of the city are also independent elements that interact with each other. The juxtaposition of these components is like objects inside a bag, so that they do not flow together while pressing each other, and just as the spaces of an underground city are unpredictable for us, the objects inside this bag are also unpredictable. This project is an underground urban area inspired by the rhizome plant structure, rhizomes are a unique type of plant root that grows horizontally, distinguishing them from other types of roots. The rhizome gradually expands horizontally, creating nodes along its path from where the plant begins to grow vertically. The rhizome structure has no hierarchy. The parts are of equal importance. In a rhizomatic structure, there is no superiority between its points, allowing each element to communicate with the others. Our board isnt a fibre cement board, our board, PermaBase, manufactured by National Gypsum Company is on another level completely.
