This paragraph from Google's executive guide to generative AI is something everyone should clearly understand, or at least, keep in mind when working with this general-purpose technology: "Foundation [Gen AI] models are best thought of as probability engines that can be nudged and shaped by human input. Because they are probabilistic, they are fundamentally different from traditional software paradigms. When today’s apps need to look up product prices or validate customer information, they use deterministic functions that call a database. In contrast, foundation models use the patterns they learn during training and tuning to calculate the most probable output, such as the most likely answer to a question or an accurate caption for an image." . Garbage in, garbage out. #genai #digitaltransformation #thebasics

AI's rise sparks concerns about opaque decision-making, but instead of restricting algorithms, Martin Fowler argues for prioritizing explainability in software. This ensures accountability and allows for understanding and challenging decisions made by AI systems. #AI #algorithms #explainability #softwaredevelopment #responsibleAI #this_post_was_generated_with_ai_assistance https://lnkd.in/e2srSqRi

Where's the "hype"? - and where are we (or You!) in the AI cycle? Are your work efforts integrated with various forms of ML or AI tools? Or, have such technologies (real, imagined, or proposed) simply presented themselves as solutions which may take hold in the future...and you just don't understand the practical details quite yet? I was going to write a more detailed post about this, but someone tried to research if you could make money off betting just with no information and based on how bets are changing. They found you couldn't. It's why you still need information or strategy in algorithmic trading. People think we'll find solutions with AI with zero human guidance and that's how you land on things like this. No matter what you need industry experts, analyst, and good data to help make sure you models have are accurate. While at Roadbotics, we often lamented that we are using AI in enthralling and tough applications that might not make sense, rather than focusing on the boring and mundane things that AI is exceptional at. I personally rather have my AI rate my roads than write a poem. https://lnkd.in/dSFE4vxe

Did you know that there is a hidden structure in the Open Source AI model space? 👀 Pretty much like songs, videos, or stories - AI models are connected through shared user interests. This 5th viz of our Hugging Face - aiworld_eu advent calendar maps these links when “users that 💜 model A also 💜 model B” The information in network structures is incredibly rich and powers modern recommender systems. And in a future with dozen or hundreds of million of OS AI models it will be a game-changer for spotting alternatives or complementary models. Users can find their perfect match, let’s say a twin AI model that is smaller and could be easy to overlook. Don’t we all need our personalized AI compass Florent Daudens Brigitte Tousignant Thomas Wolf Andrea Renda ?! 🧭

We’re in a “1996 moment” with AI—think back to the early days of the internet, when Netscape opened up new possibilities. But this time, it’s different. Information isn’t just accessible; it’s already curated, analyzed, and organized in a way that’s immediately useful. With AI agents, we’re able to skip lower-level tasks and focus on higher-value work. For those who are usually skeptical of tech hype cycles, this feels like a truly defining moment—AI is showing real, tangible value that sets it apart from past trends.

#NAB2024: AI Post Production Workflow It’s being made clear this year that the #ai discord is switching from the sensitivity of #GenAI to the creative enchancement opportunity of #UtilityAI; meaning tools that will stop us from doing the jobs we don’t want and start doing the things we do want. Simply put, AI is liked when it does something you don’t know. AI is hated for doing the stuff you do know. So focus on the ones that you like. And ofcourse, Pinar has another beautiful mic drop: “AI is just data + algorithm = results. Let’s stop being fascinated with computation. (That’s all it is.) And let’s start being fascinated with the human potential to have come up with that computation. No machine will act outside it’s data set. Only humans can pivot on a dime and create miracles.”
