The Internet of Underwater Things requires new communications approaches. The EM-1 uses electromagnetic fields and can pass data from underwater locations to above the surface. For example, environmental sensors at the base of a wind turbine can relay data to above the surface without cables.

What is Thermal Sensitivity and How Important is NETD for Thermal Imaging? One specification that is often overlooked at the expense of resolution is thermal sensitivity. Thermal sensitivity, also referred to as Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD), describes the smallest temperature difference observed when using a thermal device. Thermal devices measure sensitivity in milliKelvins (mK). The lower the number, the more sensitive the detector.
