What is Thermal Sensitivity and How Important is NETD for Thermal Imaging? One specification that is often overlooked at the expense of resolution is thermal sensitivity. Thermal sensitivity, also referred to as Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD), describes the smallest temperature difference observed when using a thermal device. Thermal devices measure sensitivity in milliKelvins (mK). The lower the number, the more sensitive the detector. Embedding incremental cost (IC) function into the primary control layer of dispatchable virtual synchronous machines (VSMs) within autonomous microgrids (μGrids) optimizes generation costs and enhances frequency stability by providing virtual inertia. Despite introducing persistent frequency deviations, decentralized secondary frequency control strategies are crucial for maintaining Economic Dispatch (ED) objectives. To address this, a new control framework based on integral controllers for grid-forming VSMs is proposed in this paper. The framework aims to restore frequency in a decentralized manner while achieving ED. Additionally, a dynamic reactive power control loop is suggested to enhance μGrid stability without compromising the dynamic attributes of VSMs. Extensive analyses and simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy on the IEEE 38-node μGrid.
