Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we work with our support providers to ensure that the right level of support is delivered to our tenants via person-centred care. Person-centred care focuses on the needs of the individual. People's preferences and needs should guide decisions, and care should be provided that is respectful and tailored to the individual. One of our tenants, Alex, was involved with choices about his support at his home in South West London. Alex’s support worker involved him in making decisions about what he would like support with which includes cooking and planning meals, learning how to do housework, and with exercising in the gym. Co-production ensures our tenants are involved in decisions about their support, which increases their confidence and resilience, and crucially, their ability to disclose safeguarding concerns, according to Ann Craft Trust, the leading authority on safeguarding. 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, we can no longer turn a blind eye. You may not want to intervene directly and that is totally understandable but to walk by and ignore specific signs if you believe a child or adult is at risk of harm, this may have fatal outcomes. It is a Collective Responsibility … The notion that “safeguarding is everyone’s business” reminds us that protecting those who are vulnerable is not a task for a few, it’s a collective duty. When we all stay alert, informed, and willing to act, we create a community where people feel supported and safe. By doing our part, whether big or small, we contribute to a world where safeguarding is the norm, not an afterthought. When we look out for each other, especially those who cannot protect themselves, we build stronger, safer, and more compassionate communities. Safeguarding is not just about intervention; it’s about prevention. And prevention starts with each and every one of us. 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦: Immediate danger, call 999 (in the UK) or the emergency services in your country right away. Provide clear details of the location and situation. Contact Local Authorities For less urgent concerns, you should contact your local safeguarding authorities: For Children (Child Safeguarding) NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) for advice or to report concerns: Phone: 0808 800 5000 #EverybodysBusiness #safeguarding #beyourbest #domesticabuse #childabuse #youthviolence #bestpractices #childprotection #safeguard #youthwork #safeguarding

Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) I am a Peer Leader in P-CEP. Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) enables people to self-assess their preparedness, capabilities and support needs and develop a personal emergency plan for how they will: (a) manage their support needs in emergencies; and (b) act together with their support network before, during, and after a disaster. P-CEP focuses on function (not impairments), local community assets, and cross-sector collaboration as the basis for removing barriers that increase risk for people with disability and other groups at greater risk in emergencies. P-CEP emphasises the capabilities of people with disability and the roles of multiple stakeholders in reducing disaster risk, consistent with Australia’s national Emergency Management and Disability Strategies.
It’s important to be prepared, to reduce the risk of danger during severe weather periods. Designed with the disability community, Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) resources help people with disability to create plans to support their needs in the event of an extreme weather emergency. The conversation card and workbook can be used to communicate emergency plans with support networks.
