I'm excited to share the results of a year-long project that began as a request from one of our top clients. Towards the end of 2023, I was asked if we can help with changing the packaging of a top selling fountain from styrofoam to something more environmentally friendly. After a year’s work, I am excited to say that I was able to make this change for not 1, but 9 of this clients’ top-selling items. By the start of 2026, these 9 items will have completely transitioned from styrofoam to cardboard packaging—an effort that reduces waste, improves product protection, and enhances the customer experience. The Impact between the 9 items: 2023 Styrofoam Usage: 3,480 units | 22,781 cubic feet.  2024 Styrofoam Usage: 5,109 units | 36,661 cubic feet 2025 : With a conservative 10% growth we could have expected to use approximately 40,327 cubic feet of Styrofoam without the change.  2026 : With another 10% growth from 2025 to 2026, we expect to save over 44,000 cubic feet of styrofoam from entering landfills, enough to fill up over 81 standard-sized garbage trucks (!) The Journey: This project started with a request from my client to develop sustainable packaging for their top-selling item. Initially, I explored getting a custom cardboard mold made, but the $2,000+ initial cost was too high for something that might not have even worked. Here's how it evolved: 1️- I sourced 1-inch-thick honeycomb cardboard sheets and designed custom packaging tailored to their products. 2️ - I conducted self-testing of Amazon’s ISTA 6 drop test to ensure the new packaging could handle shipping/handling. 3️ - After refining the design, I worked with the client's factory for further testing and validation. 4️ - Two of the items have finished live test batches of 50 with no returns and no reports of broken parts. 5️ - They are now moving forward with 9 top items, and by 2026, all 9 will be fully switched to cardboard packaging. Overall, this might have been the most rewarding project I have ever done and I hope to continue pursuing more opportunities that can deliver on both environmental impact and business success. #Sustainability #Packaging #Innovation #GreenFuture #LFG
