I'll explain in this tweet the advantages such a visit has for a Rwandan citizen. For a Rwandan citizen, President Kagame's visit to Senegal to meet with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and members of the cabinet signifies a diplomatic effort to strengthen ties between Rwanda and Senegal. This could potentially lead to new agreements or collaborations in areas such as trade, security, or cultural exchange. Such a visit can also be seen as an opportunity for Rwanda to expand its diplomatic and economic influence in West Africa, which could ultimately benefit the citizens through increased opportunities and partnerships. 𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐒𝐀 𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐇𝐀𝐍: #HornOfAfrica In September 2018, leaders from Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia signed the Comprehensive Tripartite Cooperation Agreement in Asmara. The accord aspired to strengthen regional ties across political, economic, social, cultural, and security domains. However, recent developments suggest a shift, as the initial promise of cooperation seems to wane under external pressures, particularly from Western influences. Read more https://ow.ly/eTSE50RjWr9

In my closing remarks at the 5th ministerial meeting under the #LuandaProcess, held in Angola on Saturday 12 octobre 2024, I laid down, on behalf of the government of Rwanda, three (3) key points that would be decisive in solving the conflict in eastern #DRCongo: 1️⃣ The #DRC, to take ownership of this crisis, stop scapegoating Rwanda in all official visits and international conferences, and find a lasting solution to the conflict. This should be done through a direct political dialogue with the #M23, addressing the root causes of the crisis, which include hate speech, historical marginalization, discrimination and persecution of the Congolese Tutsi; 2️⃣ The DRC, to neutralize, in good faith, the #FDLR génocidaires, who not only are embedded in the Congolese army, but are also spreading genocide ideology within the #FARDC coalition and in the whole region; 3️⃣ The African countries that provided troops to fight alongside the FARDC/FDLR coalition (#Burundi and #SAMIDRC contingents), as well as the European mercenaries, which were deployed in violation of the international law, to think twice about their presence in eastern DRC, which is fueling an already tense situation. Should the DRC have the political will to take those important steps, this would significantly contribute to the resolution of the long-standing conflict in eastern DRC. And Rwanda is willing to support this process.

After #Mali, Burkina Faso and #Niger has announced the confederation, #ECOWAS nominated Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye #Faye to engage with the three military-led member states to try to reunite the region. There are some reasons behind this decision. The younger president of the continent wasn’t yet elected, when relations between the juntas and ECOWAS deteriorated last year after the coup in Niger and the risk of intervention. In addition, despite the fact that #Senegal is an ally of the West, Bassirou Diomaye Faye wants to revise the old economic agreements with France, "to free the country from dependencies in its politics" - and this is something that the leaders of the junta should generally "like". However, in the near future, this is unlikely to bear fruit in uniting the #Sahel due to the ongoing tensions and the disposition of junta leaders. #Africa #ForeignPolicy #africanpolitics #westafrica
