💥How you THINK you should recruit your next Executive Assistant: - Focus solely on years of experience and qualifications - Look for someone who follows instructions perfectly - Prioritize hard skills over everything else 💥 How you SHOULD recruit your next Executive Assistant: - Prioritize those who have experience in your specific industry - Look for those that share values with you and your immediate team - Focus on those that are a good cultural fit for your business and its processes - Search for a candidate that complements your personality. As what I call an administrative generalist, I’ve worn many hats over the course of my 20+ years as an administrative assistant. My experience spans a variety of fields, including recruiting, purchasing, quality assurance, manufacturing, legal affairs, environmental compliance, domestic and international shipping, customer service, marketing, project management and more. In past job searches, being a generalist often felt like a disadvantage, as many roles seemed to favor specialists. However, according to the enclosed post, it seems the value of generalists is being recognized more and more. While I’m not actively seeking a new role, it’s encouraging to see this perspective evolve. Generalists bring adaptability, a broad skill set, and the ability to connect dots across disciplines—qualities that can drive success in so many areas.
Chief of Staff - Streamlining Operations and Executive Support - Tackling Chaos for Startup and Small Business Success
Have you noticed the growing demand for generalists in job postings lately? To me, being a generalist means having a diverse set of skills and experiences. There’s this misconception that being good at many things means you can’t excel in just one area. But the generalist flips that notion on its head. A generalist brings adaptability to any team. They understand multiple departments, seamlessly bridge gaps, and draw from a wide range of skills. It’s amazing to see backgrounds in sales help shape marketing strategies or operations expertise elevate executive support. I always circle back to the value of a Chief of Staff role as the ultimate generalist, because every company needs someone who can navigate across departments with ease. The key takeaway? Don’t overlook that diverse skill set. A person with a varied background and willingness to jump into any challenge can be the secret weapon that drives your company’s success. Do you believe you’re a generalist? #Generalist #Postion #ChiefOfStaff #Hiring

Candidates, let me fill you in on something. When they say they are going with another candidate it doesn’t necessarily mean they have identified that candidate. Yes, you may see the role reposted. No, that doesn’t (always) mean they are being impossible and refuse to hire. These days it costs a lot to employ someone. People are damaging higher wages and companies are starting to look well ahead of time so they have runway to wait out the very right fit. I know that everyone thinks they are the perfect fit. But please understand that you can’t know that simply by a job title. I can't send every Director of Operations I know to just any company. I need to know a lot of details. That role is different in almost every brand. How many locations will they over see? What are the volumes like? How many people report to the role? Are there District Managers between the the General Managers and a the DOO? Does your experience line up? There are so many things that determine if you are a fit. These are questions you should be prepared to ask as well. It is very easy to believe that everyone does everything as you have always done it. This is just not the case. Showing your understanding of this will greatly increase the possibility of you moving further in the process regardless of how you answer these questions. #directorofoperations #restuarants #retail #hotels #hospitality #culture #interviewtips #executiverecruiting #rlc #iveytalent #TAMtalks

Being "Under-titled" is worse than being underpaid. If you are called a "Coordinator" but you are really a Director.... That is a BIG problem. Titles are important. It is the first thing hiring managers look for on your resume. We had a client recently in a Regional Manager role. The "Region" was 7 European countries, lol. With over 1BN in revenue. We "Titled" him (Chief Operating Officer equivalent) in parenthesis on his resume. So, he landed COO interviews $300K+ instead of Regional Manager (175K) ones. He was doing the job, his title did not align. There are many ways employers try to 'put you in your place', but we never fall for that here.....we know what you are worth. #resumewriting #jobsearch #jobtitles
