Sometimes, though, they need a bit of personal help off the job – and the Vacation Donation program is one way to assist colleagues in their time of need. Officially called the "Vacation Donation to Sick Leave Account program," this policy allows all state employees to donate up to 40 hours of accrued vacation leave each fiscal year, to be converted to sick leave that may be used by another employee who has applied to receive assistance through the program. Past beneficiaries of the program have included employees undergoing treatment for cancer or recovering from surgery complications, and parents who needed more leave to care for critically ill children.
