It’s incredible to see how a simple idea can grow into something much bigger. This video shows the very first WickWorming planter I built in my apartment garage, after being inspired by the WaterUps® wicking beds with Subpod® I set up at the school where I was teaching at in 2021. I wanted to create a planter that could fit on my small balcony, combining water conservation with food waste composting in a compact, efficient way. Inside, the WaterUps wicking system ensures the plants get the water they need, while the composting worm farm breaks down food waste into nutrient-rich compost—making the planter nearly self-sufficient. What started as a personal project soon evolved into something I wanted to share with others. That’s when I decided to explore my entrepreneurial side and launched WickWorming through ReadyFundGo - Crowdfunding Sustainable Innovation, where I was fortunate to have Jill Storey, CEO of Ready Fund Go, guide and mentor me through the process.
