I am delighted to tell you that I have joined Chirrup.ai (https://www.chirrup.ai) as Managing Director.
Folks, during our lifetimes we have seen a 70% loss of global biodiversity (this article was published yesterday by the BBC: https://lnkd.in/gukvghU3) and a 60% decrease in flying insects in the UK since 2004. The 2024 butterfly survey was the worst ever recorded. While much attention has rightfully been placed on reducing carbon emissions, the urgent need to protect and restore nature’s biodiversity has often been overlooked.
The good news is that nature bounces back, if we give her the chance. To start with we need to measure or baseline biodiversity, and at Chirrup we have a simple, yet insightful, and scalable way of doing so, with bird acoustics. This is particularly relevant to corporates, who from this year have to provide quantifiable biodiversity scores in their ESG reports.
This is just the beginning. We’re developing additional nature monitoring solutions that will empower farmers to make land management decisions that foster a symbiotic relationship with nature, enabling both agriculture and biodiversity to thrive.
My thanks to Chirrup Founder, Conrad Young, who is trusting me with this responsibility.
PS - I am proud of the role I have played in the non-alc drinks industry, and the hunt for amazing, botanical-based, flavourful, functional spirits will continue, albeit on the back burner. Helping nature restore its balance is where I feel the greatest impact is needed right now.
