Why do McDonald’s and Burger King 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 being neighbours? Let me paint you a picture. Imagine a Coca-Cola vending machine. It’s sitting there on a bustling corner, raking in 100 cans a day. Now... someone plops a Pepsi machine right next to it. What do you think happens? Do they split the sales? Maybe 50-50?  Or 70-30? Nope. 𝘉𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘭 200 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢 𝘥𝘢𝘺. Why? 𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚’𝙨 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙨. It’s no longer, "Do I want a Coke or nothing?" It flips to, "Do I want a Coke or a Pepsi?" See, adding a rival doesn’t just slice up the pie. 𝘐𝘵 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘪𝘦. This is why McDonald’s isn’t losing sleep over being next to a Burger King. They know competition doesn’t shrink the market... it expands it. For agency owners, this is what StorySelling™ does for your business. It doesn’t just grab the attention that’s already out there. 𝘐𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘵 𝘶𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶. Curious to know how? That’s what my today’s email is all about. So, sign up for the newsletter if you haven't already - 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦.

You know the real reason certain brands are impossible to forget? It’s not about the product. It’s not about the price. It’s the story they weave into everything they do. The brands you remember - the ones that keep popping into your mind (and your shopping basket) - don’t just sell. They 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵. They make you feel something. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’s the power of StorySelling™ in action. And it’s what I’m handing you in my StorySelling™ Masterclass. Here’s what you’ll walk away with: → A blueprint for writing copy that draws people in like a magnet - no more hard-selling. → The art of making your customers see themselves in your brand’s story. → And most importantly... how to turn words into cold, hard cash. No fluff. No filler. Just a step-by-step framework to make your brand utterly 𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦. Get your access here: https://eladshimoni.framer.ai/

In general, I agree from a European perspective. But in North America? I am not sure this works. The fast food market simply cannot expand more than it has. An abundance of choice everywhere you look. Competition is cutthroat.

This is a sharp perspective on competition driving market growth. The Coke-Pepsi analogy perfectly illustrates how shared visibility creates a larger audience for both. In analytics and e-commerce, I’ve seen similar effects. Introducing a competitor’s offering alongside your own often increases overall engagement, as customers feel empowered by choice. The takeaway: competition can be a strategic growth lever if framed right

Valid point but I’m curious: How do you approach competition in your industry? Do you see it as an opportunity to refine your approach, or does it make you rethink your strategies?

Competition doesn’t divide the market it expands it. It’s not Coke or Pepsi, it’s Coke and Pepsi growing the pie. McDonald’s and Burger King? Perfect neighbours for a bigger market. Elad Shimoni

Elad the way I see it is that my only competition is me. There can be 16,000 other purpose brand strategists out there but no one is me and I cannot be them. We all bring a special stamp to the role. It can’t be duplicated. You’re right it does make the pie get bigger Elad Shimoni

This is a brilliant analogy that perfectly captures the power of competition. By introducing a rival, both businesses benefit from increased visibility and a larger market. It's a testament to the idea that a rising tide lifts all boats. In the world of agency ownership, StorySelling™ seems to offer a similar advantage. By creating compelling narratives, you not only attract existing clients but also expand your target audience. It's a strategic move that can significantly impact your business's growth.

This is a great lesson for all of us. It flips the traditional competition mindset on its head. True growth doesn’t come from fighting for a bigger slice... ...it comes from making the whole pie larger. Collaboration and contrast create attention and choice, not division. For businesses, it’s a reminder: your "rival" might just be your greatest amplifier.

🔴 STOP ❌ Ignoring rival brands. ❌ Believing there's a limited market. ❌ Fearing competitors will steal customers. 🟢 Start ✅ Accepting competition as growth. ✅ Finding allies in rivals. ✅ Using StorySelling™ to attract interest. Just like Coke & Pepsi, sometimes it’s good to have a little fizz next door. Elad Shimoni
