At dinner tonight with the eData practice heads of several AM LAW firms and in-house counsel at major corporations, the topic turned to GenAI’s impact on legal. Opinions ranged on the breadth, severity and timeline of GenAI’s impact on legal, but we all agreed that it is already happening and we’re only in its infancy. Not surprisingly, when I checked LinkedIn tonight, the below article - on exactly this topic - was waiting for me at the top of my feed. This excerpt, among several others, stood out to me in particular. #UFDISCO24 #artificialintelligence #legaltech “While some law firms are approaching Gen AI as an optional, nice-to-have technology, [Thomson Reuters’] research has found that change is likely to take place imminently. And within the next 10 years, the legal industry should expect wide-scale business model changes, as well as some disintermediation of lawyers in situations in which consumers eschew legal professionals altogether in favor of a technological option.”
In my recent experience, every dinner with colleagues in this industry eventually leads to Gen AI discussion 😆 Thanks for sharing!
Exciting times ahead for legal with GenAi!

1yThanks for sharing, Elan. Lots of paths this technology can take but as you mentioned it’s going to make an impact and change the way things are currently done. We are certainly seeing a tremendous interest in leveraging AI and beginning to test scenarios where it can be applied. I’m going to share this as well. 👍
