Piles, also known as haemorrhoids, are a condition where the veins or blood vessels in and around the back passage (anus) become swollen. Typically, they aren't serious and tend to go away on their own. However, if they haven't disappeared within a week or so, you may want to see a specialist. Mr. Jake Foster, Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon here at Harbour Hospital explains more below about haemorrhoids, and the haemorrhoidal artery ligation operation (sometimes known as HALO) used to treat them.

Patients with carotid artery stenosis and plaque ulcers located distal to the most stenotic point are more likely to experience cerebrovascular ischemic attacks. Therefore, carotid plaques with ulcers located distal to the most stenotic point may be a potential indication for surgical treatment.

Ophthopedia Update:Scleral lenses for visual rehabilitation and improvement of subjective symptoms in Salzmann Nodular Degeneration: Purpose: This case series shows that scleral lenses (SL) are beneficial in treating symptomatic Salzmann Nodular Degeneration (SND). SND is a corneal disease characterized by whitish, gray or bluish nodules on the peripheral or central cornea and can cause foreign body sensation and/or blurred vision. Usual care for symptomatic SND is surgical management. Scleral lenses can be fitted to improve vision and reduce symptoms. In this case series s cleral lenses were fitted for visual rehabilitation and relief of subjective symptoms as an alternative to or as co-management with surgical intervention. #eye #Ophthalmology #CLAE

Portal venous gas refers to the presence of gas within the portal venous system, which carries blood from the digestive organs to the liver. It's often a sign of serious underlying conditions such as bowel ischemia or necrosis, which can be life-threatening.
