🚀 Exciting Times Ahead! 🚀 Reflecting on my 24-year journey in the Air Force, I’m filled with gratitude for the opportunities it provided. Enlisting in 2000, the Air Force allowed me to find stability while exploring various roles, which was crucial for someone who had 12 jobs before enlisting! The military helped me discover my strengths and passions. Education has been another incredible benefit. Through on-the-job training and Tuition Assistance, I earned 2 Associate’s degrees, a Bachelor’s degree, and 2 Master’s degrees, mostly without cost. Now, as I prepare to retire from active duty, I’m thrilled to announce my next step: a SkillBridge internship with an aerospace and defense company. This four-month experience will allow me to transition smoothly into the private sector, giving the company a chance to see if I’m a good fit. Why I believe I’ll succeed: 1️⃣ Teamwork: Military units thrive on teamwork, and I’m confident these principles will apply in any work environment. 2️⃣ Adaptability: The Air Force taught me to be flexible and thrive in diverse assignments. 3️⃣ Continuous Learning: My extensive education journey taught me how to learn and adapt to new challenges. Yes, it’s a bit nerve-wracking to step away from the security of military service, but I know my experiences have prepared me for this moment. I’m ready to continue being a great teammate, adapting to new environments, and learning every step of the way. VSFS interns working with the U.S. Department of State's Veterans@State employee affinity group are contributing to meaningful projects that support and advocate for military veterans in the federal workforce. Through this experience, interns are sharpening their professional skills in several key areas: 🔹 Communications: Creating accessible visual and written content for newsletters and internal communication. 🔹 Research: Analyzing trends in veteran hiring, retention, and promotion across the government and private sectors. 🔹 Mentorship: Facilitating mentoring activities and helping design programs to support veterans’ professional growth. 🔹 Event Planning: Assisting with the execution of events, promoting awareness, and building a stronger veterans community. AIRTEC attended The Patuxent Partnership (TPP) Defense Summit this week. It was another great local opportunity to support the important mission of TPP and engage with leaders in government and partners in the defense contracting industry. We often forget in the day-to-day grind and hustle why we do what we do but this was a great reminder of the big picture and the imminent threats that could be around the corner and why we must continue to work together and work through contracting, procurement, logistics, and budget challenges to be ready to protect the freedom we all enjoy. TPP is a non-profit member organization that works with government, industry, and academia to advance education through STEM-based initiatives, advance technology through events, and advance science and technology through the exchange of ideas, information, and data. TPP is a vital component of fostering workforce development. AIRTEC has been a member since 2019 and participates in their Southern Maryland 2030 Workforce Development Program which provides paid internship and apprenticeship opportunities in the area. This collaborative effort is with the Naval Air Warfare Center Aviation Division (NAWCAD), the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance, and many educational partners including local colleges and schools, as well as industry. We look forward to having talented students from this internship program join us in Summer 2024! Located in the AeroPark Innovation District at the St. Mary's Airport, a few miles from the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, AIRTEC has been supporting the critical missions of customers for more than 30 years. These programs, designed to ease the transition from military to civilian life, include the Career Skills Program (#CSP) and the Department of Defense (DoD) #SkillBridge program. While these initiatives provide soldiers with valuable opportunities for pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, on-the-job training, employment skills training, and internships, interpretations of the regulation is leading to the exclusion of a significant group of service members. International Internships! It seems there is strong interest here but I need some feedback. For international businesses (not US) would you want US ex military personnel? or ex mil personnel from your country? For US businesses, are you interested in international military personnel? International military pers - do you want to intern just at US industry or just in your home country? Plus or minus any other ideas of what you would want from this?

Got resources? We are in the "Veterans Are Supported Era" and this is a great place to be. However, it can get overwhelming. Here is how to navigate the sea of resources available to veterans: 1. Utilize what your military branch provides (checklists, TAP, etc.). 2. Do your research...what are your brothers and sisters in arms utilizing? What was their experience? 3. Tap into one other resource that provides a holistic approach to the #militarytransition (training, internships, career services, lifetime access to training material, and job placement) We'd love to be that resource for you. According to LinkedIn's 2023 Veteran Opportunity Report, veterans bring an incredible wealth of education, skills, and experience to the table. Yet, their military background often goes undervalued in the civilian workforce, leaving both veterans and employers at a disadvantage. Despite having nearly twice the work experience of non-veterans, veterans are only half as likely to reach director or vice president leadership roles. This highlights a significant gap in recognizing the leadership potential of veterans. Leadership is one of the top skills honed by veterans during their service, yet it's not always fully utilized by employers. Other highlights include: ·      Only 5% of Veterans are getting internships while in college (Compared to 30% of non-veterans Veterans have many of today's most in-demand skills, with their first roles after the military often being in high-skilled jobs Veterans are less likely than nonveterans to leave their first job within 6 months https://lnkd.in/gTMmQ7A
