https://lnkd.in/gy2mKVRU Although the article doesn't directly address it, this is an aspect of the "anti-ESG" movement that I've struggled to understand. Our modern lifestyle, increasingly based around the Internet of Things, relies on electrification. Most people don't want to burn coal to power their smart speaker if they have an alternative, because they also value clean air. And investors are clearly looking for opportunities related to clean power and the net-zero transition. It's the old invisible hand: the pursuit of self-interest inadvertently leading to a public good. Grid investments in this context are rather a no-brainer - whether they're called ESG or not. Perhaps the invisible hand in this case is actually tinted green.

🌎 Exciting News Alert! 🚀 On March 6, 2024, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) took a monumental step by adopting rules to enhance and standardize climate-related disclosures for public companies and in public offerings. The new rules will require SEC registrants to disclose, among other items, "The capitalized costs, expenditures expensed, and losses related to carbon offsets and renewable energy credits or certificates (RECs) if used as a material component of a registrant’s plans to achieve its disclosed climate-related targets or goals, disclosed in a note to the financial statements." A big part of the #energytransition required for #decarbonanization of our planet, is the investment in #renewableenergy, #transmission and #storage #infrastructure, for which #climatefinance is needed - and like with any other projects, #patientcapital is required, which might be the ideal match for #privateequity/ #privatecredit #assetmanagers, and #privatemarkets investments by #assetowners.
