Great experience this week at CXAUTO2024 where I was privileged to present on the role Boards of Directors need to play to ensure their companies successfully build a transformational data & analytics culture and function. Also enjoyed attending the AutoTech Investments sister conference as well. Thanks to Pam Walter and April Rain for putting on terrific meetings. A few key takeaways: · AI/GenAI of course dominated the discussions, but I was pleased to see some real-world examples in use by a number of the very progressive dealer groups in attendance (DGDG, Holman, Shaker Auto, Jeff Wyler, etc.) · Most customers will accept the personalized communications GenAI affords, so long as it doesn’t become too creepy (“is my phone listening to me?”) · The industry continues to evolve in an ever more customer data-driven manner, as we have moved from DMS’s as the primary technology to CRM tools and now to CDP’s providing a comprehensive view of the customer. The holy grail that I am focused on is now integrating OEM, dealership and 3rd party lead provider data, providing a true 360-degree view of the customer, allowing for smarter, coordinated communications, resulting in a drastic reduction in marketing expenditures. Lots of fun seeing many terrific industry veterans including Bill Cariss, Allan Cooper, Peter Fong, Steve Greenfield, David Metter, Mark Rikess, Charlie Vogelheim, and so many others.
