𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐒𝐀 𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐇𝐀𝐍: #HornOfAfrica In September 2018, leaders from Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia signed the Comprehensive Tripartite Cooperation Agreement in Asmara. The accord aspired to strengthen regional ties across political, economic, social, cultural, and security domains. However, recent developments suggest a shift, as the initial promise of cooperation seems to wane under external pressures, particularly from Western influences. Read more https://ow.ly/eTSE50RjWr9

After #Mali, Burkina Faso and #Niger has announced the confederation, #ECOWAS nominated Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye #Faye to engage with the three military-led member states to try to reunite the region. There are some reasons behind this decision. The younger president of the continent wasn’t yet elected, when relations between the juntas and ECOWAS deteriorated last year after the coup in Niger and the risk of intervention. In addition, despite the fact that #Senegal is an ally of the West, Bassirou Diomaye Faye wants to revise the old economic agreements with France, "to free the country from dependencies in its politics" - and this is something that the leaders of the junta should generally "like". However, in the near future, this is unlikely to bear fruit in uniting the #Sahel due to the ongoing tensions and the disposition of junta leaders. #Africa #ForeignPolicy #africanpolitics #westafrica

A new report by Amani Africa, an independent policy research and consulting think tank, reveals that the continent has experienced a regression in its peace and security landscape since the inauguration of the agenda, with more violence hotspots erupting in the past decade. Four candidates, including Raila Odinga of Kenya, are vying for the position of AU Commission Chairperson in the upcoming elections in February 2024, seeking to succeed Moussa Faki of Chad. The think tank emphasizes the need for the new leadership to recalibrate the AU's strategy and approach to silencing the guns, address the persistent failure to implement decisions reached by the AU Peace and Security Council, and adopt measures for changing the current peace and security situation through a strategic review and a new agenda for peace and security in Africa. #GeopoliticalFrontiers M23, a Congolese 🇨🇩 rebel group, conquered the city of Goma, in the province of Northern Kivu, forcing the population to flee in mass. #WorthKnowing For at least two years the fightings have been taking place across the province and in the country, revealing the weaknesses of the Congolese 🇨🇩 government, which is accusing the neighbouring State Rwanda 🇷🇼 of supporting M23. The authorities did not deny the support, affirming that fightings on the borders are a serious threat to their security and territorial integrity. The province of Kivu is rich in minerals and gemstones 💎 and has always been contested. The 1994 Rwanda 🇷🇼 genocide saw many Hutu people fleeing to the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩, paving the way for ethnic conflicts which last until now. #WhyIsItImportant The situation in the region brought the UN 🇺🇳 to establish a peace keeping mission, MINUSCO, since 1999, which was often criticised for misconduct and corruption and did not help to solve the conflict. This new move could bring to an open war between the two countries, with devastating effects for the whole region. What is at stake here? #DemocraticRepublicoftheCongo #Rwanda #NorthernKivu #Goma

As the conflict rages on in #Sudan, millions are displaced, at least 750.000 people are on the brink of starvation and death and more than half of the country’s 48 million people are in a situation of chronic hunger, according to reports by the TheIPCinfo. To end the conflict and bring the country back towards a path of democratic transition, the country’s civil society, political actors, and diaspora community are coming together in a civilian-led peace process centered in Kampala and Addis Ababa. In late May, the Taqaddum – the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces – was founded in Addis Ababa by Sudanese civil society, diaspora, and political actors from across the political spectrum in Sudan. Here, members of Taqaddum share their visions for the initiative, and their aspirations for how an inclusive Taqaddum can help shape an inclusive, peaceful Sudan 👇🏿 #KeepEyesOnSudan #civilsociety #taqaddum

In my closing remarks at the 5th ministerial meeting under the #LuandaProcess, held in Angola on Saturday 12 octobre 2024, I laid down, on behalf of the government of Rwanda, three (3) key points that would be decisive in solving the conflict in eastern #DRCongo: 1️⃣ The #DRC, to take ownership of this crisis, stop scapegoating Rwanda in all official visits and international conferences, and find a lasting solution to the conflict. This should be done through a direct political dialogue with the #M23, addressing the root causes of the crisis, which include hate speech, historical marginalization, discrimination and persecution of the Congolese Tutsi; 2️⃣ The DRC, to neutralize, in good faith, the #FDLR génocidaires, who not only are embedded in the Congolese army, but are also spreading genocide ideology within the #FARDC coalition and in the whole region; 3️⃣ The African countries that provided troops to fight alongside the FARDC/FDLR coalition (#Burundi and #SAMIDRC contingents), as well as the European mercenaries, which were deployed in violation of the international law, to think twice about their presence in eastern DRC, which is fueling an already tense situation. Should the DRC have the political will to take those important steps, this would significantly contribute to the resolution of the long-standing conflict in eastern DRC. And Rwanda is willing to support this process.

Mali, under the leadership of General Assimi Goita, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first African nation to be debt-free. General Goita's administration took bold steps to address corruption by selling assets belonging to corrupt elites and holding them accountable, including the son of a former president and several ministers. This decisive action demonstrates a commitment to transparency and justice. It is inspiring to see African nations like Mali, Burkina Faso, and Botswana taking proactive measures to reduce foreign and IMF dependency. These examples serve as a reminder that Africa has the potential to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. African countries should strive to break free from the constraints imposed by economic exploitation and prioritize the well-being and needs of their citizens. It is essential for African leaders to focus on building a legacy that uplifts the continent and its people, rather than perpetuating systems that benefit external powers at the expense of their own communities. Mali's achievement in becoming debt-free is commendable, and it serves as a beacon of hope for other African nations. However, it is important to remain vigilant and cautious, as there may be challenges and obstacles that arise along the path to sustained economic freedom. #Africa #AfricanDiaspora #Mali 🇲🇱 #AlkebulanAwakening #AlkebulanRenaissance #AfricanLeaders

The possibility of changing our govt system here in PNG should be an alternative into the future. This current government system excebates and aid systematic corruption , admissible politicians who are straight face liars with a popluation who is just too complacent and cannot demand nothing even when corruption is happening in broad daylight. We need a system that compels us to demand , think and act beyond our little lives of as long as I have food despite it being scarps, government can carry on the game of thrones at the expense of our wellbeing. The debts, the cost of living, the lawlessness, injustice and all the associated social issues that is getting worse by years.
