My Sunday rant is coming a day early today. To be honest, I had such a fab time at the IHS on Wednesday that I didn't think I would rant this week, BUT……. 😡 Why are brand new opening hotels still making sustainability an afterthought? 🏩Why are they not required to meet MINIMUM sustainability standards as an opening requirement? TBH, it's just not funny anymore. It's new opening month, and this weekend I've seen so many beautiful hotels open their doors, so I go onto bookings or their websites to have a look, and I'm really sad and angry that the very basics are missed time and time again. - Single-use water in rooms - Small bathroom amenities in rooms - Breakfast buffet food waste disasters with multiple plastic packaged single-use items - No recycling options for guests - Paper and pens on tables in meeting rooms - Single-use cups at coffee stations - No easy access to tap water Surely this is basic. Where are the consultants working with these hotels? Someone please tell me why this s**t is still happening in high-end and branded properties? If you are in the process of opening a new hotel and sustainability is on your radar please get in touch. Its so easy to get right. #Newopenings #Hotels #Hospitality #GMs

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦? 🛁 It’s a bigger debate than you think. 🤔 * Two towels? Bare minimum comfort. * Five towels? Guest satisfaction overload. * Excess towels? Environmental strain. 🌍 * Too few? Guests feel unprepared. 😕 * The right choice? Fewer requests for more towels. 📲 That’s where technology can help. 💡 #HotelManagement #GuestExperience #Sustainability #SmartHotels #HospitalityTech

"Linens and towels replaced every third day unless otherwise requested." 😐 During my recent vacation, I noticed a significant change in the hospitality industry’s approach towards sustainability. 🏨 Many hotels have adopted a policy of replacing linens and towels every third day unless otherwise requested. While this may initially seem like a departure from the traditional daily linen change, it represents a commendable step towards environmental responsibility. The rationale behind this initiative is grounded in the urgent need to conserve water and reduce energy consumption. Consider the following: 1. Water Usage: Hotels can use up to 300,000 gallons of water per month just for laundry. 2. Energy Consumption: Each load uses about 20 gallons of water. Extending the interval between changes reduces energy use and carbon footprint. 3. Guest Support: A study found that 75% of hotel guests are willing to participate in such programs. 4. Financial Savings: Hotels save money on reduced laundry costs, allowing them to reinvest in other sustainability initiatives, benefiting both the environment and the business. Such measures reflect a broader shift towards responsible tourism, where the hospitality industry plays a crucial role in protecting our natural resources for future generations. So, the next time you see that sign in your hotel room, you can rest assured that it’s a step in the right direction – a positive move towards a more #sustainable and #environmentally conscious world.

🌿 Sustainability in Hospitality: Turning Challenges into Opportunities 🌍 As the hospitality industry evolves, sustainability is no longer just a trend—it’s a necessity. In my 24 years of experience, including successful pre-openings of prestigious hotels like Steigenberger, Sentido, The Chedi, and DoubleTree by Hilton, I’ve witnessed firsthand how adopting eco-conscious practices can transform operations, enhance guest satisfaction, and contribute to a better future. Sustainability is about more than reducing waste or conserving energy; it’s about rethinking how we operate to create a lasting positive impact. From implementing energy-efficient laundry systems to integrating waste reduction strategies and sourcing eco-friendly materials, these small yet powerful steps drive meaningful change. 💡 Here are three strategies I’ve implemented to make a difference: 1️⃣ Smart Resource Management: Leveraging technology to monitor and optimize water and energy usage across departments. 2️⃣ Team Training & Engagement: Empowering staff with the knowledge and tools to adopt sustainable practices seamlessly into their daily routines. 3️⃣ Guest Engagement: Creating opportunities for guests to participate in sustainability efforts, such as offering incentives for linen reuse programs or promoting local, sustainable suppliers. These initiatives not only enhance operational efficiency but also align with the values of today’s environmentally conscious travelers. The results? Reduced costs, a smaller carbon footprint, and elevated guest satisfaction. As hospitality leaders, we have a unique opportunity to set the standard for sustainable luxury. Let’s continue to innovate, inspire, and lead the way in making our industry a model of environmental stewardship. I’d love to hear your thoughts: What sustainability initiatives have you implemented in your organization? How do you see the role of sustainability evolving in hospitality? Together, we can shape a greener, more sustainable future for our industry. 🌟 #SustainabilityInHospitality #Leadership #PreOpeningSpecialist #LuxuryHotels #HospitalityInnovation
