The onslaught began in April when it was reported by U.S media outlets like bloomberg.com that the now infamous LINE project, a USD1.5 trillion planned glass-walled metropolis to stretch for 105 miles across the Saudi desert and to be completed by 2030, was being severely shortened to just 1.5 miles or a reduction in length of 98.6 percent. Saudi Arabia has ordered eight Candela P-12 electric hydrofoil passenger vessels, the world’s first zero-emission ships, for its NEOM city project. This is the largest order ever for the Stockholm-based company. The Candela P-12, launched last year, is set to start serving Stockholm's public transport in fall 2024. These vessels fly above the water on computer-controlled hydrofoils, cutting energy use by 80% compared to traditional ships. The P-12 can travel at 25 knots (28.77 mph) and has over two hours of battery life. It carries up to 30 passengers, lifts above the water at take-off speed, and uses a 252-kWh battery for its power. Smaller and faster than other vessels, the P-12 allows for more frequent departures and quicker travel times. 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia’s NEOM is set to receive a fleet of electric hydrofoil ships that glide above the water to transport passengers across the futuristic site, marking another step towards sustainable urban mobility in the region. 🛳️ NEOM has ordered eight Candela P-12 vessels, the world’s first electric hydrofoil ships, to service its planned water network. 👉 This order represents the largest in Candela’s history, with Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and founder of the company, saying: “The P-12 is designed to create zero-emission water transport systems which have significant improvements over traditional water commuting.” 👉 The Candela P-12, set to debut in Stockholm’s public transport in fall 2024, promises to redefine maritime transit. Using computer-guided underwater wings, or hydrofoils, these vessels consume 80 percent less energy than conventional ships of similar size.
