Electron’s Post

UK distribution network operator Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has launched trials for its “Demand Diversification” initiative, aiming to incentivise more of its customers to engage in energy flexibility 🚀 For some technologies, electricity use can be scheduled, such as for EVs and heat pumps. SSEN's new approach therefore takes advantage of that ability, with flexibility service providers (FSPs) paid to manage aggregated consumer demand in two ways: ➡️ “Allocated capacity”: FSPs are paid to manage the aggregate demand of their consumers within that allocated flexible capacity ➡️ “Dynamic Congestion Response”: Real-time data can help show demand levels, and FSPs can then be paid to schedule loads at times of low demand Alongside market-based flexibility procurement through a market platform like ElectronConnect, this is giving FSPs more choice and creating new ways to boost the flexibility of our energy system 💪
