The ERA recently donated 12 laptops, 5 desktop computers, 5 monitors, and 5 projectors to York Region Educational Services. This donation will support the launch of their new computer lab, designed to enhance children’s programs and establish volunteer workstations. With this donation, York Region Educational Services can now offer vital educational and community resources in a modern, state-of-the-art facility. Two non-profits (Kramden Institute and E2D - Eliminate the Digital Divide) that have distributed more than 100,000 computers in North Carolina are joining forces to expand their impact statewide. They offer to pick-up of 20+ devices at no cost to businesses and government agencies. They provide free data destruction, saving staff hours that your IT Department can dedicate to other tasks. Equipment donors receive a charitable donation receipt and a free certificate of data destruction upon request. They distribute computers to persons in need through digital skills classes and 100+ distribution events annually. It's their intention to get devices from your community back to YOUR community. We are thrilled to announce that representatives from Comcast and the Norwalk Housing Authority (NHA), along with Connecticut State Senator Bob Duff, gathered at the Colonial Village Learning Center to unveil a generous $10,000 grant and the donation of 50 laptops. In a world where access to technology is synonymous with access to opportunity, its been great to find ourselves in a position where we’ve been able to donate a number of unused laptops to a local school, which will help young children within our community increase access to education. Why am I raising money to donate books? Imagine a world where your zip code determines your access to stories, knowledge, and dreams. A staggering 82% of CPS elementary schools lack a functioning library, a basic necessity we often take for granted. The disparity grows as we learn that libraries exist in only 10% of primarily Black schools and 21% in Latinx schools. Now, picture a child's home. In 61% of low-income families, not a single age-appropriate book graces their shelves. Yet, studies show that children growing up in homes with at least twenty books gain an additional three years of schooling compared to their peers from bookless environments. Books are more than just paper and ink. They are windows to new worlds, bridges to immense possibilities, and the keys to unlocking untapped potential. This post was posted during 2020 During Covid and we are still on our Mission to equip kids with laptops. It is important that the students get the laptop to do the homework online so that they can pass their classes during the Covid-19 Shelter in place order. It is a matter of either not passing to go on to college or having a higher education. We need to help the students who is not so fortunate to buy a laptop to do their work online. This is where you all come in. So, we need all of the #HUSD #OUSD, #SFUSD Administrators, Teachers, Kids, and beyond.
