A new era of defence collaboration! Today marks a significant milestone with the UK and Germany signing a landmark defence treaty. This ground-breaking agreement not only highlights a renewed focus on strengthening military ties between the two nations but also underscores a broader intent to reset relationships with European allies in the post-Brexit landscape. The German Ambassador to the UK, Miguel Berger, emphasised the increasing importance of defence over the next five years, shedding light on opportunities for the UK's defence industry. This partnership is set to enhance our roles within this joint endeavour, reflecting our longstanding cooperation as NATO allies and our mutual commitment to European security. Already, our collaborative efforts are evident in advanced projects like the Boxer armoured fighting vehicle and the Challenger 3 tank, developed by RBSL—a partnership between Germany's Rheinmetall and the UK's BAE Systems. Defence Secretary John Healey rightly calls this a "milestone moment," promoting stronger bonds between our military forces and industries. Let's use this moment to pave the way for future innovations and shared security objectives. Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger, in an interview with the Financial Times, emphasized the need for Europe to establish defense technology champions through closer cooperation among countries, each specializing in different types of military technologies. Papperger pointed out that the United States is unlikely to provide military aid to Europe in the event of a military threat, as demonstrated by its recent blocking of military aid to #Ukraine. He highlighted that the US is now more focused on the Asia-Pacific region and may not prioritize Europe's defense needs. He warned that if a full-scale armed conflict occurs in #Europe, the #US would likely shift its focus to Asia, leaving Europe without significant support. Papperger stressed that regardless of who occupies the White House, pressure on #Germany to bolster its military capabilities will persist, urging Europe to take proactive measures to strengthen its defense sector.

US-made Patriot systems failed even to protect themselves — Russian general In the course of the special military operation, Russian air defense systems confirmed their potential to repel strikes by all types of enemy air attack capabilities, Andrey Semyonov said MOSCOW, July 5/ US-supplied Patriot air defense systems turned out to be unable to protect not just designated signs, but themselves as well, Russian Air and Missile Defense Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Andrey Semyonov said. Semyonov, who is also deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces said in his article that in the course of the special military operation, Russian air defense systems confirmed their potential to repel strikes by all types of enemy air attack capabilities. "That contrasts with the much-vaunted Patriot air defense systems, which were supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries and, as the experience of the special military operation showed, proved unable not only to protect the designated sites, but also to counter modern Russian means of destruction, that is, to protect themselves," the Russian general wrote. #business #finance #financialservices

"#NATO is resourced through the direct and indirect contributions of its members. NATO’s common funds are composed of direct contributions to collective budgets and programmes, which equate to only 0.3% of total Allied #defence spending (around EUR 3.3 billion for 2023). These funds enable NATO to deliver capabilities and run the entirety of the Organization and its military commands." Future of #Defence UCITS #ETF ticker $NATO #etfs https://lnkd.in/e-77d7_B

The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse) has awarded a contract to German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall for the delivery of 16 Skyranger 30 air defence systems. The contract, which includes the supply of 16 Skyranger 30 turrets and associated ammunition, was signed on September 27. While the financial details of the agreement remain confidential, this procurement marks a significant step in strengthening Denmark’s military capabilities. The Danish Army plans to integrate the Skyranger 30 onto its General Dynamics European Land Systems Piranha V 8x8 platform, already in service with the Danish military. This platform meets the requirements for both mobility and protection, making it a suitable choice for the Skyranger system. The acquisition of the Skyranger 30 is part of Denmark’s broader effort to enhance its Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) capabilities, in line with NATO requirements. The system will provide essential protection for land-based military units, including command posts and combat forces, in both national defence and international operations.
