Existing buildings-especially here in New England- weren't built with electric vehicle charging in mind, making it a challenge to install chargers without breaking the bank. But what if you could add EV charging without the need for expensive electrical upgrades? Our case study shows how a condo building was able to install 21 charging stations using a private charging model and smart optimization to manage energy usage and reduce costs. https://lnkd.in/eZsTX5em #EVcharging #sustainability #propertymanagement

“Charging at home” currently represents 80% of all EV charging, yet multifamily homes — ie. 31.4% of all US housing — routinely lack the infrastructure to enable widespread EV access for tenants. This is why MRV is proud to have led the latest round of funding for Orange. And here's how they solve the problem: By Matt McElhattan and Jimmy Teng

Increasing access to equitable home charging in multifamily buildings is a key challenge of the transition to electric vehicles (EV). 🚘⚡🏢🏘 Dunsky is pleased to share a national roadmap for tackling the issue of home charging in multifamily buildings by scaling comprehensive EV futureproofing strategies, developed for our clients, the Green Municipal Fund and LC3 | Low Carbon Cities Canada | Ligue des communautés canadiennes sobres en carbone. With the support of the Alectra GRE&T Centre and McCarthy Tétrault LLP, our roadmap presents the business case for taking a comprehensive rather than piece-meal approach. Specifically, it recommends actions for governments, utilities and development financial institutions to: ➡ Encourage designs that use EV Energy Management Systems (EVEMS) to lower the costs of implementing EV charging infrastructure that will ultimately be available to all residents. ➡ Update legislation across all levels of government to address barriers to electrification. ➡ Introduce thoughtfully designed incentives and financing programs that encourage buildings to implement EV charging in the ways that are most equitable and cost-effective over the life of the building. ➡ Empower residents and building owners through capacity building and education programs that promote standardized approaches and best practices. The report also proposes recommendations to require all parking in new developments be EV Ready. To read more and consult the full report, visit the link below: https://lnkd.in/ey9-jYVy

Very happy to see our report for Green Municipal Fund and LC3 | Low Carbon Cities Canada | Ligue des communautés canadiennes sobres en carbone inform their recommendations for enabling comprehensive EV futureproofing for multifamily buildings across Canada. It was a privilege to work with Brendan McEwen and Lindsay Wiginton, with support from McCarthy Tétrault and Alectra GRE&T Centre to deliver this roadmap. With a third of Canadians living in multifamily buildings, ensuring access to EV charging at home is critical to achieve transportation equity goals and broader climate targets. But current approaches to EV charging installations — typically installing a few chargers at a time, without planning for expansion — uses electrical capacity inefficiently, making subsequent expansion much more expensive, and risks stranded assets. Relative to incremental approaches, comprehensive futureproofing offers: 🔌 Better efficiency, optimizing buildings' limited electrical capacity 💲 Lower costs, leveraging economies of scale and smart energy management ⚖ Greater equity, ensuring everyone can access charging at home and benefit from the clean energy transition Read the report: https://lnkd.in/etPNAmrH Read the briefing: https://lnkd.in/efmMR5z3

Electric vehicles are reshaping transportation and development projects. In fact, by 2030, the U.S. could see 27 million EVs on the road, driving the need for 35 million charging ports. Bohler's Ben Crowder, PE, LEED AP outlines regulations mandating EV parking spaces in new developments, such as New Jersey's DCA Model Statewide Municipal EV Ordinance, requiring up to 15% of commercial parking to be make-ready, depending on property use.
