We held a fascinating panel discussion on ethical AI with some true experts in the field - Dee Masters, Neil Ross and Tim Clement-Jones. Our panel covered the following issues: - the current state of play on AI - how the UK should legislate for new technologies - enforcement and accountability - practical tips for those who are developing or deploying AI systems. Here is a recording of the discussion https://lnkd.in/es_ZqGvR Huge thanks to the panel and our fantastic and engaged audience for a rich and illuminating discussion. #AI #GDPR #technology

The Issue With Explainable AI (XAI) The EU GDPR's transparency requirement mandates that organizations must be clear about how they collect, store, and use personal data. The requirements are relatively straightforward. On the other hand, the AI Act's explainability requirement goes a step further. According to the EU AI Act's Recital 59 and Article 13, high-risk AI systems must be transparent, explainable, and documented. However, the Act does not provide a precise definition or tangible thresholds for what 'explainable' truly means. This is where XAI comes in - a suite of methodologies that aim to make AI's output more comprehensible and trustworthy for humans. However, a recent scientific paper raises some serious concerns I share. It suggests that the current use of XAI may be misleading, providing unreliable explanations and false impressions about the workings of AI systems. When we use suche tools, we need to ensure they do not become a factor of inequality or exclusion. We need asap clear definitions and standards for explainability to foster trust and confidence in AI systems and to ensure accountability. I welcome your thoughts. #AI #DataProtection

Hot off the presses 🔥 An open letter from current and former employees at frontier AI companies about AI. They identify themselves at the bottom of the letter. It's a highly recommended read. Key concerns from this group: ✅ AI companies have strong financial incentives to avoid oversight ✅ AI companies lack transparency over non-public information about the capabilities and limitations of their systems. ✅ An inability to voice concerns or whistleblow because of a lack of regulations and fear of retaliation The letter also provides 5 principles they want AI companies to commit and the last two stood out to me. 1️⃣ That the company will support a culture of open criticism 2️⃣ That the company will not retaliate against current and former employees who publicly share risk-related confidential information after other processes have failed. #ai #ethics https://righttowarn.ai/
