If being a Family Caregiver was a math problem! If you’re walking on ice cream at 5 ounces per toaster and your bicycle loses a sock, how much gravy will you need to repaint your hamster??? What Caregiving is really like.. just when you have it figured out, you’ve finally figured out how to get them to shower on a regular basis, you think you know their baseline, you’ve got the perfect respite team in place, the insurance figured out… Caregiving happens and it unpredictably. That is why having support or being a part of a support group on your care journey is so important. Shout out to all the Caregiver Besties who are there for us on our Care Journey. If you know of or run a great in person or virtual Caregiver Support Group of any kind anywhere in the U.S. drop the information below so Family Caregivers can Find the support they need. 💖 #caregiversupport #familycaregivers #caregiving #caregiver

So very true. Engaging with #Hospice and #endoflife care is already difficult. I have a colleague who has been using #hospice for almost 2 years. Thankfully, she had a good group, but replacements are always difficult for the #caregiver and #patient when people leave. Here are some essential questions to ask when you are picking a hospice group (including inpatient): 1. What are the group's annual turnover rate and attrition? 2. Is the staff local or traveling? What is the staff makeup? traveling vs locals 3. How will change be communicated, and by whom? 4. How many patients does the average hospice nurse see? (ratios). 5. How are late nights, after-hours, and holidays handled? 6. Do the nurses assigned have a #specially? Meaning do they usually treat #cancer patients or #neurodegenerative diseases like #dementia and #Parkinsons or #CHF? While beggars can't be choosers, it's helpful if there is a #specialty in their end-of-life experience to align with the patient #diagnosis, as the management can be very different. Thank you, Barbara, for sharing this important message. #findyourwhy #patientadvocate ##endoflife #hospice #palliativecare

You wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes without trying them on to see if they’re a good fit — yet we accept hospice services a hospital or a physician tells us to use. There is a saying that “a rose is a rose is a rose.” Well, a hospice is not necessarily a hospice is NOT necessarily a hospice. If you or a physician think it is time for hospice services for your special person, start interviewing agencies in your area. Most areas have more than one hospice. Talk with as many as you can find. Ask them questions and let them know your expectations.. Assess their warmth, their availability, and how you feel talking with them. There are excellent hospice agencies out there. You are going to be guided by and working with an agency during a very important, emotionally-charged time. You want the hospice you choose to be “a good fit.” #hospice #endoflifedoula #endoflife #endoflifecare #hospicenurse #caregiverlife #familycaregiver #caregiving #caregivingfortheelderly #caregivinglife #gonefrommysight #death #deathanddying #deatheducation #deathworker

𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 Disputes among siblings are very common when it comes to providing care for an elderly parent. The good news is that there are ways to handle this situation without tearing the family apart. Disagreeing about the care of an elderly parent is not uncommon, but when the siblings have the parent’s best interest in mind, a plan can be made. The help of a senior care representative can be very instrumental in bringing everyone together for the good of your parent. #inhomecare #seniorcare #eldercare #caregiving https://lnkd.in/gS9RGe8

"Moving them into long-term care homes that are far away from their loved ones that might be the substandard homes with terrible care records that causes suffering and hastens the death... it takes away the right to consent to informed consent for the elderly in the very final stages of their lives." We often assume that old age is a liability, but that is far from the truth. In fact, old age is a blessing. Housing ages of memories, wisdom, and knowledge, old age allows us to reflect on the life we’ve lived and look back on the past fondly. If anything, old age is a new lease on life. So, it is time to appreciate the seniors in our lives for their years of experience. #ThoughtOfTheDay #Quote #Awareness #AgeWellCare #ElderCare #SeniorCare #CareGiving #HomeCare #ElderlyCare
