Translation of iPSC-derived therapies requires cost-efficient mass manufacturing of high-quality cells. This study presents an improved three-dimensional Vertical-Wheel® bioreactor (3D suspension) cell expansion protocol with comparison to a two-dimensional (2D planar) protocol. With a refined expansion protocol, we describe the largest expansion potential reported to date over 5 days using 0.1 and 0.5 L Vertical-Wheel® bioreactors. 3D expanded cells showed enhanced in vitro and in vivo pluripotency phenotype that may support more efficient scale-up strategies and safer clinical implementation. Importantly, this iPSC generation and expansion protocol is compatible with GMP manufacturing! Kudos to the first Research Publication in the journal "BiomedicalScience Research". About the article: Its basically about the researchers working on most of the recent stem cell therapies, with majority being performed only on animal models, thus, degree of harmlessness and efficiency must be satisfactorily determined and ethical issues must also be resolved. Nevertheless, recent therapies and their advancements described in this review provide us with hopes that efficient treatments for PD will soon be established.
