Entrepreneurial Households (EHs), who mostly reside in rural and semi-urban areas of India, are often seen as dependent on and beneficiaries of government grants and philanthropy. Enmasse seeks to bust this myth and showcase the real opportunity that EHs present. Over the last 20 years, Elevar Equity has witnessed the growth in prosperity of this customer segment. Entrepreneurial Households run at least one small business, which augments income and enables them to withstand economic shocks. As per estimates in the EPIC Opportunity Report, over 60 Mn households run micro-enterprises, over 125 Mn households own farmland, and over 178 Mn households have 2-wheeler mobility - each of these indicates the entrepreneurial nature of these households.  Conventional sources of data only capture a part of their vibrancy, with a large number of transactions still taking place in the informal segment. Praxis Global Alliance used an asset ownership method to estimate that India has 247 million Entrepreneurial Households as of FY23. The report employs an original approach to estimate the economic vitality of Entrepreneurial Households based on their overall transaction volumes. A new metric, Core Transaction Value (CTV)™, reveals an enormous opportunity, poised for growth, that remains undercapitalised. The report concludes that these Entrepreneurial Households are the drivers of India’s next economic wave, with a CTV of $8.8 Tn in FY23. This CTV is set to grow to $95.2 Tn in the next twenty years.
