Sustainable Fashion Takes Center Stage: Discover the Power of Textile Recycling! 🌍 Did you know that over 45% of textiles produced in China end up as waste? 😱 But the tide is turning as leading economies adopt innovative solutions to tackle textile waste. From fiber regeneration to composting, the textile industry is embracing a circular economy approach. By reprocessing pre-consumer and post-consumer textile waste, we can create new textile and non-textile products, reducing our environmental impact. Fast Fashion Waste: What Happens Next? ⏭ With the EU’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Textiles, the conversation around textile waste is changing—and so must the solutions. 🌎 Here’s the challenge: textile companies must now take responsibility for their products from production to disposal. But what does this mean for all the clothing we’ve accumulated over the years? Let’s think ahead: 🔄 Scenario 1: What if we adopted a deposit system for clothing and textiles, like the one used for bottles? Would consumers be willing to return garments for recycling? 🗑Scenario 2: Can we create better collection systems to keep textiles out of landfills and in the circular economy? 🛠 Scenario 3: Should producers be incentivized—or penalized—based on how easily their clothing can be reused or recycled? At Re-Fresh, we’re all about finding solutions to tackle textile waste. But we want to hear from you. What’s the best way forward? Would you pay a deposit? Do we need smarter systems or stricter rules? #CircularEconomy #EPRforTextiles #SustainableFashion Viktoria Kanar, Revital Nadiv, Gal Taylor, Eva Kohne, Aleksandar Kovačević, Andrea Munoz

A step toward sustainability – but where’s the solution? From January 2025, it’s illegal in Sweden to throw away textiles and damaged items. It’s a powerful move toward a circular future, but there’s a missing piece: Where do these items go now? Right now, we lack effective systems to recycle and repurpose textiles at scale. This law highlights the urgent need for innovative solutions to turn waste into resources. As someone passionate about sustainability in fashion, design, and textiles, I see this as an opportunity to rethink how we handle textile waste and build systems that make sustainable choices easy and impactful. What do you think—are we ready for this challenge? #sustainablefashion #circulareconomy #textilerecycling

The global textile industry is 0.3% circular. 99% of the staggering 3.25 billion tonnes of materials consumed by the industry annually come from virgin sources. One-third of the ever-growing pile of cheap, low-quality clothing is never sold. Nearly two-thirds of textile waste goes straight to landfills or incinerators. The textile industry has been moving in the wrong direction, and overconsumption drivers like #BlackFriday are to blame. It's time to turn the tide. Six circular strategies hold the promise of a textile industry that is three times more circular and 50% less damaging to the environment. Are you ready for change? The global textile industry is 0.3% circular... 🤯 99% of the staggering 3.25 billion tonnes of materials consumed by the industry annually come from virgin sources. The textile industry has been moving in the wrong direction, and overconsumption drivers like #BlackFriday are to blame. The good news is that by scaling circular practices across the global value chain, we can cut the environmental impact by up to 50%. This shift requires us to move from individual commitments to systemic change. It's time to turn the tide. Not only does H&M promote overconsumption, but they are literally running a Black Friday campaign as I type….the very thing this report is sharing strategies to overcome. Yes, H&M and the H&M Foundation are separate entities, financially, strategically, and organizationally independent. But the post asks if *we* are ready for change. The real question is: how can the strategies outlined in this report drive meaningful change when H&M—the brand most closely associated with it—is simultaneously participating in the problem? How can progress be achieved when the actions of major industry players contradict the very solutions being proposed? Make it make sense! 😩🫠
