As a member of the Romanian community but well integrated into the British community, I’ve come to appreciate the immense value of brainstorming with key stakeholders in addressing complex issues. This process is crucial for developing best practices that foster cohesion and collaborative work through a holistic approach.
Emphasizing stakeholder collaboration for community cohesion and holistic problem solving around communities, especially migrant communities, who often face unique challenges as they navigate cultural differences, societal norms, and legal frameworks is imperative!
What may seem like the "obvious" right thing for one person may not be clear to another. That's why it’s essential to engage all perspectives, learn from mistakes, and draw on the expertise of everyone involved to find solutions that benefit the entire community.
Today, I had the privilege of participating in a very proactive meeting focused on challenges around the Roma and Romanian communities in Hull and Humberside. I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved, including the Consulatul General al României la Manchester through the General Consul Nicoleta Teodorovici, Humberside Police, Children Protection Services, Social Care, the Local Council, and ROTA - Roma Organisation for training and advocacy.
Together, we explored new ways to work collectively for the betterment of our communities.
We left the meeting with clearly defined needs, targeted solutions, and a strong commitment to collaborative action.
One exciting outcome is the development of a two-way pilot training program aimed at fostering cultural understanding and improving engagement between Romanian Roma communities and local authorities. This initiative, supported by both British and Romanian authorities, represents a major step forward.
While this journey won’t be easy or offer a short-term fix, it promises to make a meaningful difference in our community. Positive change is on the horizon, and I look forward to being part of this important work.
