As of 2023, Epic holds 39.1% of the U.S. acute care hospital EHR market share. If your institution isn’t currently using Epic, chances are you’re either considering it or your EHR vendor is already planning their next moves based on Epic’s roadmap. This—combined with the fact that health systems are hesitant to adopt new solutions if Epic has a comparable tool on its roadmap—gives Epic the ability to outcompete nearly any startup in a given category, should they choose to. In other words, what Epic does should be of interest to every health system leader, health IT startup executive, and health tech investor across the country. In our newest report we’re breaking down Epic’s current and publicly announced planned AI features to help healthcare decision makers understand how best to navigate an Epic-dominated ecosystem. #Forbes released a Seth Joseph article about Epic Systems' stronghold on the hospital & health system EHR business. This monopolistic position potentially risks the lifeblood of innovation and competition in the EHR segment in more ways than just market share. Epic, like so many other legacy systems, have the money and ability to scale, to invest in innovation, albeit slower than startups, and easily move through the enterprise & down-market healthcare sales cycle on their "trust and security" equity. But their product roadmap claims to offer simplicity for their customers by building features that "replace" the need for 3rd party vendors. While in today's strained healthcare delivery system, providers need more. More flexibility, speed & transparency that can't be achieved by feature add-ons. In multi-site outpatient #PhysicalTherapy clinics, workforce recruitment & retention are top priorities (as witnessed on the Expo floor of APTA's CSM this year). OpEx is increasing. Admin burdens are increasing. And more patients are seeking care. Operational efficiency is paramount but the wound that won't heal is documentation. It is time to rebuild #musculoskeletal #documentation to support a reality where providers have more time for patient care. It's that simple. #healthcare #innovation (image content includes information from https://lnkd.in/gZgbzk9Y)

Epic systems revolutionizes health data access 🚀💡 Epic Systems announced that users can now release their health data to apps of their choice, giving them more control over their medical info. This simplifies patient access to medical records and marks a huge technological leap for healthcare. Epic helped establish TEFCA, ensuring secure data sharing across networks. Now, patients can use apps for health coaching or medication reminders by importing their records via Epic credentials. This new standard for data-sharing is set to revolutionize how medical information is accessed and utilized in the U.S. 🏥📲 #HealthcareInnovation #PatientEmpowerment #HealthTech #MedicalRecords #EpicSystems #TEFCA 🌟

What happens to the promise of interoperability when one EMR holds the plurality of patient records? Is it a positive , as more people are connected to health systems with a common EMR? On the other hand, having one EMR with such dominance may not create the market forces that support further connectivity of non-EPIC EMRs. #EMR #EPIC #Interoperability

Does Size Matter??? Nearly 30 years ago, in a startup cardiology practice, embracing innovation and diving into the EHR revolution to enhance patient care was my top priority. Transitioning from paper charts to EHR systems seemed straightforward with the financial means to invest. However, we faced challenges as we were deemed "too small" for established EHR systems like Next Gen, leading us to partner with the startup system, GEMMS. This partnership proved to be invaluable, standing the test of time. The collaboration and bidirectional functionality with GEMMS enabled us to work closely with ACC on quality and pay-for-performance metrics, resulting in not just profitability but also streamlining our workflows. Upon integration into a larger health system, we switched to Cerner, sacrificing the personalized attention and tailored assessments that smaller vendors like GEMMS had provided. This shift highlighted the unique benefits that smaller entities can offer over larger vendors and underscored the significance of nurturing such partnerships. Don't underestimate the value they bring. #EHR, #GEMMS, #healthcare

Swee Kiat Lim and I are launching something different: A journal! A journal??? Yes. For the past few months, we have been reflecting on what to work on next. And we eventually decided on healthcare. Healthcare is a critical component of our society but it is burdened by challenges. Overworked staff, less-than-ideal care, long waits, administrative hassle. We can’t help but wonder what optimistic, futuristic healthcare looks like. We know this is playing the startup game on hard mode. So we would love your help! For now, we are still researching and figuring out the space. And we will be documenting our findings along the way (hence the journal). If you are in healthcare or know people in healthcare, let’s chat! Check out our launch post for the full story 👇🏻 (P.S. Even if you are not in healthcare, we would appreciate a like or a comment too so that we might reach the right people. Thanks!)
What is the future of healthcare we aspire towards?

...and now yet another Tech enabled physician empowerment service offering...this time from Clover health. While it may have some curb appeal the gist of most Tech enabled physician empowerment services is: Not many physicians (individual's practicing primary care) our out seeking more tech solutions. They are 'tech-ed out'. Most tech solutions (those we've viewed) don't feel like empowerment to practitioners, they feel like 'one more thing to do; more more application to learn' In our view, we're not expecting much market uptake in this new offering....kinda like the others...Sizzle then fizzle. https://lnkd.in/gK-sqiDN

🌟 Healthcare providers are revolutionizing patient care by consolidating electronic health records (EHR) systems. With 96% of hospitals now using EHRs, the shift towards single, integrated systems is transforming clinical efficiency. 📈💼 🏥 University Hospitals’ Epic Rollout. Consolidated 36 systems into one, enhancing care coordination and cutting login times from 30 to 5 seconds. 💰 Big Investments, Bigger Returns. $600M investment anticipated to yield $100M annually through increased productivity and efficiency. 💻 Nashville General Hospital’s Transition. Moving to Oracle Health CommunityWorks for faster processing and streamlined clinical workflows. Denver Health turned off 120 systems for Epic, improving data sharing and clinician workflow, and utilizing AI to reduce burnout. 📢 Consolidating EHRs leads to improved patient care, faster processing times, and significant cost savings. As more hospitals adopt single systems, the future of healthcare looks brighter than ever. 🌟 #healthcareinnovation #ehr #healthtech #patientcare #clinicalefficiency #digitalhealth #hospitalmanagement #medicaltech #healthcaretransformation
