THE IMPORTANCE OF DATA DRIVEN AGRICULTURE Data is very important in our world today. I believe that one significant edge developed societies have over developing societies is the presence of reliable data. While discussing with a farmer friend yesterday. I asked him exactly how much he had invested in his maize farm; he did not know. I asked how long it had been, since he planted the first maize, he did not know. My friend had no idea of the exact size of his land or the population of his crops. This lack of data is not just an issue at the individual level. It's a challenge on a macro scale as well. I am currently conducting research on the impact of various agricultural intervention programmes in Nigeria. Finding available data has been my greatest challenge. Just like my farmer friend and my beautiful country. How do we even know we are making progress if we do not document data. Young agripreneurs should understand that every small step should be documented. government agencies should realize that every action should be documented. This is how progress is made. On a related note, I stumbled on the data for participants in our Elite Farming Initiative Agribusiness Webinar 5.0. because the data is available, I can tell you a few things. but I have rather decided to show them to you in the graph below. Young farmer, social impact initiatives, policy makers, and all stakeholders in the Agribusiness space, take data seriously.
