Wednesday's reminder: you can fu**ing do it! If you think that your dreams and goals should be easy to achieve, then they are not goals. Goals are not easy, indeed they are very hard. Doing your business means falling down, getting bruised, getting up and learning that it can hurt here. But I still get up when I fall, learn a lot along the way, and listen to valuable advice only from people who know business and have been able to build large companies from scratch. Giving yourself time, patience, and true belief in what you are doing is what should be on your mind and heart. Get away from people who drag you down. There you will not get any help, they will only drown you. Instead, surround yourself with people where you will swim like a fish in water and where you will receive valuable networking. It's not an easy path, but never give up, never fu**ing give up...

How can you increase your chances of making great connections and long-term business relationships at events? If you're just starting out and feel like you're running between events hopelessly, with a bit of strategy, your life will be easier and you'll save some time. My few simple steps to start: - Do your research before the event and prepare, is there someone you'd like to meet on the guest list? - Don't try to meet everyone (impossible unless it's a 10 persons dinner, then go for it!). Focus on your few top prospects, but be open to others around you. - When you get the chance to speak to the person you were hoping to meet, be curious, listen more, ask questions, talk less. - Offer value and be your authentic self. - Follow up after with a clear idea or strategy in mind for what you were aiming, but be open to the other side's needs, ideas and suggestions. The event isn't about closing deals or sell, it's your floor to make connections. It's a start. The rest will follow. We live in a peculiar age where people are simultaneously hyper-connected through technology, but less connected physically, socially and mentally. I recently attended a very large business event, where I found myself not only learning so much, but also networking with people from all across the world and from different backgrounds. While I’m not new to networking events, it just dawned on me and I realized how far networking has taken me in both my personal life and career, and how it continues to boost my relationships and work. Regardless of how much technology advances, there will always be a critical need for human connection. This is a lesson we impart on the many young entrepreneurs and early-stage startups that join us at Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ): do not underestimate the power of networking. At RAKEZ, we have conducted around 30 networking events for our business community so far this year—and counting.
