Last year we published this GRADE Article to describe what basic GRADE is, when to state GRADE has been used and what makes articles about GRADE official. The article has received a lot of interest from GRADE users. This short video, prepared for the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology at the time, explains the minimal requirements for using GRADE and provides the context for this article: https://bit.ly/4giNXs5 It can also be downloaded here from the JCE: https://lnkd.in/dQj4GwAg

Epidemiology is a core tool for effective public health response during humanitarian crises. Increasingly, modern analytical methods, like mathematical modelling, have been added to the epidemiological toolbox to attempt to describe the epidemiology of communicable diseases, decipher disease transmission dynamics, and simulate promising public health interventions among crisis-affected populations. Using the lenses of cholera response in crises and decolonial practices in global health, this seminar will explore the potential uses and challenges for modelling in crises to aid evidence generation and real-time decision-making. Join us on Wednesday, December 18 at 1 p.m. for Epidemiological Modelling in Humanitarian Crises: From Critical Insight to Public Health Action, with Ruwan Ratnayake. Thank you, Oriana Ciani, for sharing your comprehensive study on determining the optimal sample size for multistakeholder Delphi surveys. Your findings, drawn from significant datasets like SPIRIT and CONSORT, underscore that a sample size of 60-80 participants ensures high replicability of results, which is crucial for robust research outcomes. At #T2Evolve, we're leveraging these insights to develop a Delphi survey to create a consensus on a minimum core data set for CAR T-cell therapy. This initiative is essential for standardizing data collection, thereby enhancing the reliability and comparability of research in this transformative area of medicine. By ensuring diverse stakeholder representation, we aim to foster a comprehensive understanding and consensus that will guide future clinical practices and studies.

Delphi surveys are important consensus-building exercises. Our latest paper published by The Journal of Clinical Epidemiology uses 3 large multistakeholder Delphi surveys (>1000 participants) to determine the minimum sample size for Delphi surveys – i.e. a sample size that would replicate at least 80% of the results of a bigger sample size. 📌 We find that multistakeholder Delphi surveys should aim to recruit a minimum of 60 to 80 participants and 20 to 30 for individual stakeholder groups. 📌 We further discuss other considerations in determining the sample size such as response rates and attrition between Delphi survey rounds; diminishing returns of increasing sample size as estimated in this study; and diversity and expertise of participants. 🔗 Link to the study: https://lnkd.in/eakv67ae ✍ Anthony Purvis Oriana Ciani Gary Collins Rod Taylor #Delphi #samplesize
