Swiss-headquartered #glass manufacturer Vetropack Group is set to modernise one of its three furnaces and corresponding forming machines at its Croatian plant in Hum na Sutli. The upgrade will enhance production capacity, optimise #energy #efficiency, and reduce #environmental impact. Draining of the furnace starts today and the first glass produced on the new equipment by December of this year. After draining is complete, the current flint furnace at the Vetropack Straža facility will be demolished. The company will also introduce new glass forming machines and a revised set-up for the cold end including the latest #inspection #technology. One of the new installations will be a servo-electric driven NIS machine, a first for the plant. An optimised layout of the whole plant set-up is set to improve the flow of production. These upgrades are not only crucial for maintaining the standard of glass #packaging products but also essential for ensuring the longevity and efficiency of #manufacturing operations. The modernisation will result in an increase in production capacity, enabling Vetropack Straža to better serve customers while meeting growing #market demands. Mario Berc, Technical Manager at Vetropack Straža said: “I am pleased to say that the modernisation project is carried out in a very time-efficient way. This enables us to bring our product back on the market very soon.” The facility will also achieve a higher furnace output, enabling the production of more tonnes of glass per square metre, thus saving space and optimising production costs. In April 2024, the Vetropack Group had defined and submitted its targets for reducing #CO2 emissions to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). By 2032, Scope 1 and 2 emissions are to be reduced by 50.4% and Scope 3 emissions by 30%. Reno de Medici (RDM) Group has officially closed its Blendecques board mill in France on August 31. The mill has a capacity of 140,000 tons per year of recycled board. The closure follows significant challenges over the past two years, including a major fire in March 2022 that halted production for ten months and severe flooding between November 2023 and January 2024. This asset presents the highest risk among the Cartonboard Mills from RDM Group, when considering the following factors: cost, size, technical age, and capital required. Amazing Polycarbonate It is a misconception that plastics and sustainability by definition do not go together. Polycarbonate in particular is a raw material that can be reused indefinitely. Rodeca GmbH panels are produced under a quality standard that guarantees a lifespan of several decades. Even after its function as a daylight element, the raw material can easily be reused for new functions. It is of course important that the chain is well organized. Rodeca GmbH is part of a group that also includes Ansa Termoplastici SRL. Ansa specializes, among other things, in manufacturing new production granules from used plastics. Ansa also supplies these granules to ‘third parties’ from which new products are manufactured. Another interesting activity of Ansa SRL is the production of Rodeca Savenergy panels. 🛑 YOU DON'T SCRAP AN OLD RUNI! Many years ago, O. H. Fiskeeksport, a Danish producer of salmon-products, started out with 1 RUNI to compact their waste fish boxes. As their business grew, they needed 1 more machine to handle the increasing amount of EPS boxes. Last year, O.H. Fiskeeksport wished to change from their 2 single RUNIs to a system with one shared pre-crusher with 2 RUNIs underneath to ease the logistics. At the same time, the machines, now aged 18 and 13 years, needed a thorough maintenance check and new spare parts 🔧 . We repurposed all usable parts from the two old machines and assembled these together with a brand new SK370 and automatic block dividers in a brand new storage facility. “We are very satisfied with the upgrade and we are now experiencing improved efficiency and reliability. It was positively surprising to see to what extent RUNI was able to reuse the old machines,” said Ole Hatlebak, owner of O.H. Fiskeeksport. The modular architecture of RUNI machines makes it easy to swap worn-out parts, combine new and old parts, and redesign the layout of the RUNI installation when a company’s needs evolve over time.
