What happens when you start chasing visible figures and stop managing your org as a system for the improvement of quality. Boeing 737-Max suffers gear collapse after landing in Houston, TX. How are you managing YOUR business? Like Boeing, hoping for the best-case scenario re-work opportunities, or are you proactively seeking out problems in your processes to get ahead of breakdowns in quality? #systemsthinking #leadership #deming https://lnkd.in/diTge9kG

I couldn't stop thinking about this photo that my husband snapped on Saturday in London while he was awaiting take-off. He flies a plane similar in size to the large Airbus A380 jet (shown below), and his son in the process of earning his wings for the Airbus A319 jet (also shown below). ✈️ I know there has to be a leadership message in here, my nerdy self pondered. So, here goes - stick with me for a moment for this leadership and aviation metaphor I wrote yesterday while on a plane. Leadership is a journey of scale, starting with mastering the controls of the smaller A319 jet before ascending to the captain’s seat of the formidable A380. [Look closely and you'll see the double decker for the full length of this gigantic plane.] Each aircraft we 'pilot' in our careers, from the agile A319 to the grand A380, teaches us valuable lessons in responsibility, resilience, collaboration, empathy and the art of decision-making. The smaller jet, like the early stages of leadership, is where we learn to steer with agility, understand the nuances of team dynamics, and develop the ability to handle turbulent skies with grit and grace. Our excellence in leadership is not just one destination where we fly but a continuous journey of growth and adaptation. 💪 Whether you’re piloting a startup, leading a big change at a company, or navigating a tech firm, your leadership role is significant, every flight path is unique, and every take-off and landing is an opportunity for reflection and growth. ❓ I invite you to share your first ‘A319’ moment in leadership and how it shaped the course of your career. How did mastering the smaller keys prepare you for the larger ones in your journey? 📷 LPM at LHR #MotivationMonday. #ExecutiveCoaching #LearnLeadChange #LeadershipDevelopment #GrowthMindset #AviationMetaphor #CelebrateEveryMilestone

I grew up in a military town (Air Force to be exact) and one thing that I became very familiar with was jets. There is an annual air show that displays unique and complex formations and aerial maneuvers that fascinated me as a kid. Fun fact about me: I'm also a lover of fun facts! I came across a YouTube short today about fighter jet formations, and of course my mind that never stops working drew an immediate parallel to teams and how we must stay dynamic to adjust to various scenarios and challenges. Here are a few fun facts about some of the formations these jets use and how they relate to teamwork: 🚀 Echelon: Much like wingmen positioned behind the leader in an echelon formation, in a corporate setting, this could reflect a structure where team members align on one side of a project, supporting from slightly behind, allowing the leader to guide and the members to have clear focus and perspective. 🚀 Line Abreast (Wall Formation): This formation, where all planes are equally forward and aligned with the leader, mirrors a flat team structure. Here, each member is equally responsible and empowered, promoting an environment of autonomy and peer accountability—ideal for teams needing to rapidly respond to challenges with little guidance. 🚀 Vic (Vee): A balanced formation with equal members on either side of the leader, useful in scenarios where equilibrium and equal contribution are required, ensuring stability and support in decision-making processes. 🚀 Trail and Diamond: The "in trail" position—directly under and behind the leader—highlights roles that require observation and learning from the core operations before taking the lead. The diamond formation, with a member in each critical position around the leader, exemplifies a well-rounded team capable of showcasing high performance and resilience, ideal for both showcasing talent and operational excellence. 🚀 Finger Four: A combat formation that allows for flexibility and expansive coverage, this can be seen in teams where dynamic subgroups must operate semi-independently yet cohesively to address complex problems from multiple angles. Each formation in aerial tactics is chosen based on mission demands, enemy strategy, and environmental factors. Similarly, effective leadership requires recognizing the strengths and potential of different team formations to optimize performance and achieve strategic goals. Like skilled pilots, leaders must adapt, reposition, and sometimes entirely reshape team structures to meet the evolving challenges of the business landscape. By understanding these parallels, we can craft more resilient, adaptable, and effective teams. Let's take inspiration from above and lead with agility and foresight! hashtag #Leadership #Teamwork #BusinessStrategy #Adaptability #FlyFightWin https://lnkd.in/eNCwt2GM
