The film screening will be followed by discussions with film audience. About the Film Where Olive Trees Weep offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. Following Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi and others, the film explores the themes of loss, trauma, and quest for justice. Ancient landscapes bear deep scars, having witnessed the brutal reality of ancestral land confiscation, expulsions, imprisonment, home demolitions, water deprivation, and denial of basic human rights. Yet, through the veil of oppression, we catch a glimpse of the resilience — the deep roots that have carried the Palestinian people through decades of darkness and shattered lives. Bearing witness to their harrowing experiences, one cannot help but ask: What makes the oppressor so ruthlessly blind to its own cruelty?" Click here to register: https://lnkd.in/dBjDmsEr

In case you haven't notice this already, we, all of us, people, only see what our eyes want to see. Those who notice it is genocide, what's happening in Palestine, and the further acts of Israel are gross violation of human rights, international law, humanity, moral, ethics, all the things our parents, teachers, leaders have been telling as as essential and we must upheld, are the people who choose to keep their eyes and mind open, keep their humanity and listen to their conscience. You'll meet some people, they are not majority anyway, who'd rather keep their eyes fixated only to what they chose, in particular thr 7th of October 2023, refusing to see the 75 years of illegal occupation, oppression and apartheid before that and still ongoing. These people may ask you stupid question, focusing solely on that particular date. Listen, no matter what you say to these people, they won't listen to what you say. They are just trying to get you to be like them, annoying or provoking you, however you may react to their idiocy. Best is to click on their comments, block them and delete all their comments. This has nothing to do with restricting freedom of expression. They are free to express their views every where else. This is about prioritizing, spending your time and focus merely on what matters. and not to waste your time and energy on anything that's not worth your time. Snippets from Naomi Klein's Guardian article are in the link in this post. We are watching children, SKELETAL, STARVING and FREEZING TO DEATH! And on the other side Israeli EXTREMISTS are BLOCKING THE BORDER so food, water, medicine and tents from other countries cannot get in. CAUSING MAN MADE FAMINE! These Israeli's are having a JOLLY time, A day out with the kids, eating CANDY FLOSS. Palestinians in Gaza have NOTHING TO EAT. Mothers are watching their babies DIE in their arms, As they are too MALNUTRITIONED themselves to produce milk, and there's NONE to buy. These people are CRAZY. BRAINWASHED, DANGEROUS, GENOCIDAL, CRAZY! Israeli government, media and schooling have over decades, CULTIVATED the CONDITIONS NECCESSARY for a GENOCIDE to happen. For much of their society, to accept, and ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE in a GENOCIDE. Trailer to the film, "Zone of Interest" asking HOW human nature works, https://lnkd.in/gdevuqJk how people could ACCEPT this, could IGNORE such BRUTALITY, and DENY THE HUMANITY of those just on the other side of a wall. We don't need a film to examine this. Future generations will look back at this, At US, with horror. Psychologists and historians will study them, and US. Ask how we ALLOWED this to happen. The world said NEVER AGAIN. But now it's happening again, most of legacy media and our governments are FEIGNING BLINDNESS! whilst SUPPORTING, FUNDING and ARMING a GENOCIDAL STATE. https://lnkd.in/e5QYjMi8

With regard to Israel-Palestine, I ask: -Why has Israel received preferential treatment over its repression of the Palestinians, a people who did not proactively seek out to be violent but who rose up to defend their land from being illegally annexed, their homes destroyed, their families killed/maimed, their rights and lives subjugated? -When the mandate over a territory ends, does the country who had that mandate have the right to hand over the land AND the people of that land without their ever having a say in the matter of their lives/futures? Human beings are not possessions to own or transfer. Yet this is exactly what Britain did with Palestine, ignoring the voices/rights of the then Arab majority as if they simply did not exist. -Why do we accept the specious argument that Israel has a “right” to exist on land occupied by others because of historic association with Palestine? Arabs and Christians equally go as far back in that land. Yet here they are today, being run out of their homes or just massacred en masse. What of the infringement of THEIR rights? Can we really expect endless acquiescence to injustice and the failure to acknowledge/redress it? -What is the point of the ICJ if its decisions are not enforced? There must be some mutually agreed form of ethics/justice applicable transnationally to maintain international peace/order, especially when the actions of one state impact another country/ethnic group in a manner that could set a negative precedent for chaos/injustice/inequity in the future.

I’ve used my other platforms to say this, but I feel that the message isn’t passing along far enough. So let me make this clear. We must all band behind the principles of the rule of law, of fundamental justice, and of inherent human dignity for ALL people across the world. This is in particular true for the people of Palestine, of Gaza, who are being killed in some of the most unspeakable horrors humanity has ever witnessed since social media gained widespread adoption. The ICJ’s Genocide Convention interim ruling demanding a ceasefire in Rafah — a ruling which already is being openly defied by the State of Israel — must be respected. I urge everyone who sees this post to call on that— whether through public pressure, writing to your representatives, or other means. There will not be any peace in the Southern Levant until all acts of dehumanization and of senseless violence end. As the saying goes, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, and I will continue emphasizing that for as long as necessary. Read the ICJ order in English: https://lnkd.in/gYcAZdxu Lire l’ordonnance de la CIJ en français: https://lnkd.in/gqgaCzmP (P.S. — We do have an antisemitism problem here in Canada, a real and tangible threat that is growing. However, the proper solutions to addressing that lies in dismantling the increasingly influent antisemitic far-right, one which is also actively involved in attacking queer and trans human rights; opposing an ICJ ruling rooted in humanitarian concerns, or worse, calling it antisemitic, is not the way to go.)

When international law is applied selectively, the consequence is what we see in Gaza (genocide/starvation/abuse). Recently, Israel bombed Palestinians in defiance of the UN's recent ceasefire resolution. The Israeli media even called for more attacks during Ramadan, claiming it was the best time to kill them as they were weak and tired. As someone who fasts Ramadan, during the fasting state, I find that I have sustained energy, and clarity of mind and can do more! https://lnkd.in/gSkzHVGp

Socio-Political injustice permeates our world, bringing with it the associated dynamics of privileging those in power and acts of turning away. Breaking silence and speaking truth to power shifts this pattern. In the current world climate, and with specific reference to events in Palestine/Israel and the enabling complicity of large swathes of the Western world, we believe it is vital and incumbent upon us to now speak out. As Group Analysts and citizens of the world, we join the resounding call to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people as enshrined in international law and make a clear statement in unequivocal solidarity with Palestinians and for Palestine.

Just Vision is commemorating 20 years of work filling a media gap on Israel-Palestine. As we all grieve the unimaginable reality on the ground in Gaza today and feel the pain and suffering of the communities we are part of and have worked so closely with over the past two decades, our team remains resolute, anchored in purpose and guided by the values that have served as our north star for 20 years. Our charge today is as clear as it was two decades ago. Then, as now, our work is about understanding that grassroots movements are essential to creating meaningful change, especially in the context of failed political leadership and deep power asymmetries. It is about bringing a media lens to the world that holds human rights and international law as essential to how stories from Israel-Palestine are told. And, it is about making sure that audiences across the globe have access to transformative narratives and, because of them, are moved to act. Just Vision was born to upend harmful narratives and the apathy and cynicism they foster. We know that in the face of the horrors we are witnessing today, stories that capture our shared humanity and demand truth and accountability have the power to propel us to action and show us a way forward. We thank our supporters as we keep our focus on the horizon to build a rights-respecting, pluralistic and just reality for all in Israel-Palestine.

I think politics as a field needs to be deeply re-examined and recreated. What political systems empower occupation and genocide? To what degree are states allowed to have such power by which it is exempt from repercussion and in which ramifications and consequences of state systems’ malpractice only comes in selectively? Government coalitions that are not built on humane values need to be overhauled and a system that empowers that is a legacy system of imperial colonization which should not have been present in this day and age.

To those who say that it is too complicated to understand, in what language do Palestinian children need to cry for you to understand their pain? Yes, politics is complicated, but humanity is simple. #ceasefire

There’s something so dangerous about the partisan rhetoric that dominates journalism and our social media, feeding radical ideologies in bite sized messaging. I am generally anti-war, anti-genocide, and anti-hate towards any marginalized group; however, I am also vehemently opposed to radical language that seeks to bring a group down in an effort to bring another up. My Palestinian friends have been hurting for far too long. And my Jewish friends are hurting too. I continue to be baffled by the complexity of the Middle Eastern geopolitical dynamics and history. Peace seems to be a complicated pursuit, where there are multiple layers of considerations and sensitivities. I may be naive, but I can’t seem to understand why the Israeli government’s actions could ever justify hatred towards Jews around the world. While not offering any semblance of political suggestions, I hope we can all be a bit more civil, kind, and empathetic today. Most of us have friends who are victims on either side. You yourself may be a victim with friends and family stuck in the crossfire. Most of us are distraught and uncertain about what to say, still tied by (what I like to still believe are) fundamental morals that tie humanity together. Most of us are simply human, with emotions that are rooted from a place of good. This may not be the right forum to express these thoughts, but my hope is that this message isn’t controversial and isn’t political.
