A screening tool that has worked well for me, especially in niche roles, is having candidates complete a well-crafted questionnaire instead of the usual resume dropping & sifting. Resumes come in all shapes and formats, and it’s unrealistic to expect candidates to customize them for every job application. A role-specific questionnaire, paired with key career highlights from a resume, provides much richer insights. **** Book a 1:1 with me https://lnkd.in/gdQ7mY5f Join "Tech for Product Managers" community https://lnkd.in/gW_yAkyX #hiring #tech #developer #productmanager #qa #projectmanager #analytics

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗤𝗔𝘀 Most tech hiring managers make the same critical mistake when recruiting QAs: They focus purely on technical skills and keyword matching. After 9 years as a QA engineer, I've learned something crucial: The best QAs aren't just technically skilled - they're problem solvers who understand the bigger picture. ⚫️ They don't just find bugs. ⚫️ They #prevent them. ⚫️ They don't just run tests. ⚫️ They improve processes. But here's what most recruiters won't tell you: Your traditional hiring process is designed to screen these innovators OUT. By relying on keyword matching and technical assessments alone, you're missing the candidates who could transform your quality processes. This is exactly why we developed the #QuasarMethod at Revoluxia. 🔝 We look at design patterns, not just technical specs. 🔝 We assess #problem-#solving approaches, not just tools used. 🔝 We evaluate #quality #mindset, not just testing experience. Because at the end of the day, you're not just hiring a QA. You're hiring someone who will help build market-share winning products. Agree? #QARecruitment #QualityEngineering #TestingLeadership #HiringStrategy #QABestPractices

Career Transition Challenges in QA I often see posts on LinkedIn discussing the growth paths within QA, such as becoming a QA Manager, Automation Engineer, or even a Product Manager. However, what's rarely discussed is how to transition into these roles—or other roles like Business Analyst (BA) or Associate Product Manager (APM)—when you're coming from a QA background. The challenge many face is the classic catch-22: Companies say you don’t have prior experience in those roles. But how do you gain that experience if no one gives you the chance? So, what can someone do to make the transition? Skill Development: Start learning the skills required for your target role through certifications, courses, or side projects. Leverage QA Expertise: Highlight how your QA background can add value to the role. For example, your focus on quality and attention to detail is invaluable in both BA and APM roles. Networking & Mentorship: Connect with people in your desired field, seek advice, and maybe even find a mentor who has made a similar transition. Cross-functional Projects: Seek opportunities within your current company to take on cross-functional tasks or responsibilities related to your desired role. Internal Mobility: Explore internal openings and speak with your managers about transitioning into roles you’re passionate about. Has anyone transitioned from QA to BA, APM, or any other role? I'd love to hear about your journey and get tips on how others can make it happen! #CareerGrowth #QATransition #ProductManagement #BusinessAnalysis #CareerDevelopment #FromQAToAPM #QAtoBA #SkillDevelopment #CareerPath #LinkedInCommunity

Growing as an engineer: Joining as a QA engineer As a new grad, it may be tempting to join a company as a QA (Quality Assurance) engineer – it’s often slightly easier to get in as a QA engineer than a standard software engineer, and you’re still an engineer. My recommendation would be to not take this position if you can have a software engineer offer in another company. If you are hoping to transfer ladder from QA engineer to software engineer, I think it’s a risky move - Many companies don’t allow such transfer or make it extremely difficult – in some cases it can actually be harder to change ladder than applying right after school - The process to transfer may change at any time – so even if it seems doable, it may not be the case after a year at your current position. Note that recruiters may tell you stories on how people did it, but they won’t be the one helping with your transfer – they are first and foremost just trying to hire you Very similar things can be said about moving from UX engineer, sales engineer etc. to software engineer but I think QA is definitively the hardest because of people’s vision that QA engineers are not very technical and just do boring work – even if it’s not true. To be clear, if writing code and shipping products is what you want, you should take a software engineer position from any company over a QA engineer position – even if it’s at FAANG or some other big tech company. #softwareengineer #laddertransfer #qa #switchingladder Illustration's prompt: cartoon of a software engineer working on their laptop at their desk and saying "this feature is broken"

📝 How I Use Metrics to Track QA Success in Interviews 📝 Metrics are essential for tracking QA success. Here’s how I discuss the key metrics I use: 🎯 Defect Density: I track the number of defects per release to monitor product quality. 📈 Test Coverage: I measure test coverage to ensure critical features are tested thoroughly. 💡 Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR): I track MTTR to evaluate how quickly issues are identified and resolved. These metrics provide a clear picture of QA effectiveness and product quality. #QAMetrics #QualityAssurance #ContinuousImprovement #DataDriven #OpenToWork Enjoy this? ♻️ Repost it to your network and follow Russell Uzal ✅ Sr. QA Engineer • 9 years in IT for more.
