It's #bannedbookweek--an especially important week to authors! But we know we should be talking about the need for readers to have access to diverse books ALL YEAR LONG. Here's a little script we developed at TheCaseMade to help folks think about how to talk about book bans by appealing to shared aspirations. And I encourage folks to also think about how stories get silenced long before they become books. If we don't diversify publishing and help readers see that there are many different ways to tell a good story, too many important tales will continue to go untold.
Here at TheCaseMade, we’re lovers of books and storytelling. So, in honor of #bannedbooksweek, we're sharing our case for making diverse stories available to kids at school, in their community libraries, and at home. Feel free to borrow our language to make your own case for reading banned books and keeping books on library shelves! And please share your favorite banned books in the comments.
