The Association of Catering Establishments latest article for HORECA Magazine discusses the record number of tourist arrivals in 2023, arguing that a strong contributing factor was targeting niche markets which stimulate growth during the shoulder months. Among others, these include sports, religious, wine, and musical events tourism, creating a more even balance of tourist arrivals to our shores during the low season. What happens when borders between countries are no longer important? One answer might be co-operation leading to better enjoyment of life for everyone either side of that border and for everyone who comes to visit. Nowhere sums up more this spirit of celebration than Gorizia/Nova Gorica, the border city between Italy and Slovenia, and where you should be between the 26 and 29th September this year. The Gusti di Frontiera is the largest food and wine festival in the Triveneto region. But it is much more than a food and wine festival. It is a joyous explosion of colour, tastes, and sounds through the villages of the region and in the city of Gorica. More than 40 countries will be represented, showcasing the best food and wine that their country has to offer up for your delight. It’s a sort of gastronomic Olympics, save that the emphasis is on co-operation and collaboration rather than competition. 40 countries…. You could get a life time of travelling in just the weekend! The region will have barely recovered from its revels when Gorizia and Nova Gorica will become the European Capital of Culture 2025. This fascinating city with its history of border conflicts, its architecture and beauty is best experienced through a walking tour. The City was once divided by a wall, separating East and West before Berlin was so separated, and is full of stories, such as the bizarre events leading up to what is known as Broom Sunday (celebrated in August). Friuli Venezia Giulia is Italy's best kept secret. Perhaps you should visit now before the secret is let out. #fvg #gastronomy #notjusttravel

Everyone talks about CTV in the Adtech industry but is it really the future? Our daily time spend is on Mobile devices because our Mobile device follows us anywhere we are and this is not going to change anytime soon- Mobile is all about Vertical Video comsumption driven by Social platforms so I fully agree with IAB forecast “Vertical Video will overtake CTV sooner than expected” and award winning “Storylines” created by SeenThis will only accelerate this trend reproducing the same immersive full screen Vertical Video experience but on the Open Web using existing Social assets. Are you ready for surfing this huge wave? Come and join us @Cannes lions to discuss this and shape together the future of adtech 🚀

Just returned from #WineParis and I have a few reflections to share. 1. Accommodation in Paris is much more affordable than other wine fairs like Prowein and VinItaly. It’s a big international city with millions of annual tourists: a trade fair isn’t going to strain accomodation availability. A hotel within walking distance of the fair was only €150 a night compared to €350/€400 a night at other fairs. Plus, booking restaurants in Dusseldorf can be a nightmare. 2. Transportation to and from the fair was pain-free and the public transport system was not thrown into chaos. 3. The crowd was professional and there was a focus on purchasing rather than an all-out "booze fest" atmosphere. 4. The ticketing and scanning of badges system needs improvement. It was a hassle to scan the badge every time you went from Hall 5.1 to any other hall. 5. Scheduling of the fair during Lunar New Year was a gamble that didn't pay off. I thought Asian clients who celebrate the Lunar NY would take the opportunity to travel to Paris, but I didn't see this. 6. Paris itself was a value-add for buyers or importers who could bring partners or extended family for a visit. 7. The Italian pavilion in Hall 2 was always full of foot traffic, while the remaining Italian exhibitors in Hall 5.1 saw dramatically reduced traffic. Hopefully, next year they can combine all Italian exhibitors together or at least put them in adjacent pavilions. Overall, a positive experience that I'm sure the other "Big 2" fairs can observe and pivot to ensure they remain relevant. #wineparis2024
