The US currently has 30+ vacancies with regard to Ambassadors. Chargé d'Affaires do a great job as well, but a confirmed Ambassador in place demonstrates respect for the partner country given the effort it takes to nominate and confirm individuals for the position. Ambassadors may change positions or retire, but the process to confirm nominees takes far too long in many cases, months even years. The Bahamas, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Finland, Germany, and Spain all lack US Ambassadors, just to name a few countries on the list. The Bahamas, in particular, hasn't had one since 2011. It would be great if we could somehow accelerate the process in the future and get to a point where the only vacancies would be in the case of suspended relations or recent departures. https://lnkd.in/eNEsZ6xT
