Today is United Nations Day. On 24th October 1945, the United Nations was officially founded. After the horrors of the Second World War, a global hope and the will to preserve peace and promote cooperation between countries emerged. 50 countries signed a document, the so-called UN Charter, and since then 24 October has been a symbol of international cooperation. Switzerland was one of the last countries to join the United Nations in 2002. Since then. It has played a central role as the host of important UN institutions in Geneva and as a committed partner in global issues such as peace, human rights and sustainable development. Switzerland is a non permanent member of the UN Security Council for the first time. In October 2024, it holds the presidency of the Council for the second time. On United Nations Day, we celebrate the vision of a more peaceful and fairer world.

An important story by Steven Chase on deepening #Canada-#Taiwan ties with some comments from me. Ottawa’s partnership with the GCTF is the latest example of the deepening of its relationship with Taiwan in recent years. Working to bolster Taiwan’s capabilities is essential to trying to safeguard democracy and security in Taiwan. #Taiwan#Deterrence#IndoPacific#PRCChallenge#Democracy#CyberSecurity
It's official, the United Nations Ad hoc Committee adopted United Nations Convention against cybercrime.
The first ever UN instrument in this field, negotiated in less than 3 years, which is pretty fast for UN practice given the number of member states and current global geopolitical situation. Despite not being perfect in some aspects, it is a result of mastered negotiations and broad compromise, a significant achievement on the complex matter. Great deal of diplomatic, expert and political capital invested.
Proud to have contributed to this on behalf of my country, and to be a part of this historical moment in international relations and multilateralism.

Today, Sarra from UNOY member Justice Call will be briefing the UN Security Council at the Security Council Debate about the role of young people addressing security challenges in the Mediterranean.
The Mediterranean faces security challenges such as political instability, socio-economic inequality, transnational threats, maritime security and climate change threats. Young people are disproportionately affected by these pressing challenges, yet their contributions to peace and security lack recognition and their work continues to be undermined.
How can the UN Security Council further advance the implementation of the YPS agenda in the Mediterranean?

Monday marked the 09th anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250, which unanimously recognises the role that youth play in peace and security.
This is a mandate I've had the privilege to advance in policy spaces for 2️⃣ and a half years, as part of the African Union and continue to do so. In this vodcast, I share experiential perspectives on Youth and Women, Peace and Security (Y/WPS).
Overall, these are relatively new frameworks compared to instruments such as the UNCPPCG, for example, providing both challenges and opportunities, which I reflected on.
Related, many states, especially in #Africa need to rethink their security strategies and move from "defensive" to protective and inclusive forces to respond adequately to contemporary threats to peace and security.

Where is the logic and morality that should be an integral part of the UN as a national institution whose stated purpose is to maintain the international peace and security?
Another excellent article by Mr Escobar, who connects the geopolitical strategic dots of the Axis of Resistance (aka new Axis of Evil in Washington & NATOstan) like very few others.

Establishing a new global security order is right at the heart of BRICS-10 planning – on par with the de-dollarization debate. All of this is anathema to the collective west, which is incapable of understanding the multifaceted, intertwined Russia, Iran, and China partnerships.
And the interaction goes on in person. Russian President Vladimir Putin will be visiting Beijing later this month. On Gaza, the Russia–Iran–China position is in complete sync: Israel is committing genocide. For the EU – and NATOstan as a whole – this is not genocide: the bloc supports Israel no matter what.
