Job Search: Ask a newly hired coder about his old coding job In Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Edward Jellico says to Captain Jean Luc Picard: "I relieve you, sir." [ST:TNG S6 E10] Captain Picard replies: "I stand relieved." YouTube video: https://lnkd.in/gup6CriA When somebody leaves his current job voluntarily to take a new job, somebody will likely get his old job. Why not you? You probably missed this Reddit post: https://lnkd.in/gKG54Vyq Quote: "Nothing seemed to work. The difference came when I figured messaging some guy I barely know on LinkedIn who just posted a new job update of his. I simply asked 'well, what are they gonna do with your old job?'. He connected me to hiring manager, I had a head-start in the interview game, met the team before they even started interviewing and made some impressions. They still interviewed others, but I felt like my diligence and first comer advantage made the works and they settled with me." Basically, he said, "Congratulations on your new job! Do you mind introducing me to your manager at your old job so I can apply for your old job?" Then he got the job! When Captain Picard is off doing his secret agent routine behind the Cardassian border, somebody's got to be captain of the Enterprise. Enter Captain Jellico. "I'll take your old job." Pull your own "Jellico Maneuver". You might get a coding job. #Careers #Programming #Fresher #StarTrek

The biggest thing keeping me up at night 😵 before we launched the new Prelude brand was that we would end up as digital ghosts. I imagined our new email addresses sending messages to spam purgatory, and the algorithms deciding we were irrelevant. Thankfully, our community helped make sure that wasn't the case. Every reaction, comment and click is a huge help for our visibility and for my personal peace of mind 😅 We're still fine-tuning everything including our SEO (which tbh, isn't quite right yet). As a newbie to this work, I'd gladly welcome any/all tips! Marketing and founder folks out there -- What are the best things you do for visibility and credibility when you launch a new brand?
Two weeks ago, we launched our new name Prelude (formerly Opportunity College). The outpouring of support from our community has been amazing. As a small-but-mighty team, it means so much to us to be able to celebrate these milestones together. Every message, reaction, and cheer keeps us fueled and focused. We're channeling that energy back into our broader community of educators, students and partners committed to ensuring every young person has a fulfilling future 💙 This is just the beginning of the Prelude journey. Follow our new LinkedIn page and explore our new website 👇 joinprelude.org

Having difficulty attracting the right candidates to apply? There’s a science to it. The best candidates aren’t looking for a list of dos and don’ts They’re looking for a place to belong. Instead of “We need a team player,” Try “Join us to launch a product that changes lives.”
