Research Infrastructures (RI) are important pillars in the R& I landscape, underpinning critical facilities and resources for their research domains. EMBRC is no exception to this rule, with a strong tradition supporting researchers from around the world in our marine stations for over 100 years. The use of the facilities is open to all, allowing research from all types of institutes and all sizes of companies to benefit from the latest technology, experimental set-ups, and biological resources. Our main user groups are academic researchers, however, our facilities are just as relevant for companies wishing to try new equipment, test new approaches, or biological material for testing and control experiment. Services aimed at the private sector have to meet a certain standards, be fast and efficient, and reliability to be relevant. RIs have to professionalise their services aimed at private sector users to be competitive, which raises the standard of the platforms to the benefit of both the academic and the private sector. However, often companies are not just interested in services, they are looking for new perspectives, insights from academia which is often different and closer to the ground than that received from consultancies. This makes RIs interesting partners in terms of the vast expertise they can mobile and the new perspectives they can bring to a partnership with industry. In our new industry strategy we are outlining the technology priority areas where we are strongest and the most relevant, our path towards professionalisation of our services, and crucially how to position EMBRC as a valued and trusted partner for companies in the Blue Economy Sector.

Today at the Agrarian Perspectives conference, Lukáš Čechura, head of the Department of Economics of the Czech University of Life Sciences, introduced several key research projects, highlighting their individual and combined impacts on sustainable agriculture and environmental policy. The projects presented were SEEPIA (https://seepia.cz/), BrightSpace (https://lnkd.in/eSTRJ52e), and PREDIGCR, each focusing on different yet interconnected aspects of sustainability. SEEPIA, funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, aims to evaluate the socioeconomic impacts of environmental policies. It provides crucial support to policymakers in developing strategies aligned with the European Green Deal. BrightSpace, financed by Horizon Europe, contributes to the EU’s Farm to Fork strategy by promoting a sustainable food system that respects environmental boundaries. Meanwhile, PREDIGCR explores precision agriculture technologies, enhancing efficiency and sustainability in farming. These projects represent a comprehensive approach to integrating technological innovation, policy evaluation, and behavioural research to advance sustainable agricultural practices. #SEEPIA #BrightSpace #PREDIGCR #CZU

This week it is time to introduce the Portuguese +ATLANTIC Collaborative Laboratory by answering our Q&A. ❓𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 +𝗔𝗧𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗦? 🔬 🌊 Besides contributing to the group coordination and dynamic, the role of +ATLANTIC in the ISSS is related to generate knowledge in the technical and scientific areas in which it works, among which earth observation and coastal phenomena and risks stand along aiming at improving waterfront cities response to #ClimateChange. From an alternative perspective +ATLANTIC seeks to collaborate in the development of innovative services for relevant economic areas such as aquaculture. ❓𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗦 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺? 🔎 Among other possibilities, the networking with a view to developing #JointProjects, as well as exchanging knowledge in areas of expertise, including participation in working groups are of great value for +ATLANTIC. ❓𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀? 🐟 There are many reasons to work towards a #SustainableBlueEconomy. Highlighting two ideas, it is important to remember that world trade remains largely dependent on maritime transport with all the implications this has in terms of #Sustainability, particularly from the point of view of GHG emissions. From another angle, if we consider that the demand for food of aquatic origin has grown sharply in recent decades, which causes, among others, problems of overfishing and imbalance in ecosystems, then the question arises of how to feed a world population that has grown dramatically and will approach 10 billion human beings within 30 years. ➡ for more info www.colabatlantic.com #Blueeconomy #Synergies #Researchinstitute #Marinescience #ClimateChange #SustainableFisheries #Marineresearch

The emerging program for the Nordic Nature-based Solutions Conference is taking shape! An exciting mix of speakers from across the Nordic countries. Looking forwards to it. "Nature-based solutions are considered a key part of the work on the climate and environment while simultaneously providing human well-being, ecosystem services and resilience and biodiversity benefits." But how are we designing and implementing nature-based solutions? What are the challenges and enablers? Is justice being integrated into decision-making on nature-based solutions? And how is financing being unlocked?
