*My AIESEC Journey: From Doubt to Transformation*  When I first joined AIESEC, I wasn’t sure why I was even here. Things felt rough, and I questioned my decision. But then came that moment—the NYLC conference. It completely shifted my perspective.  At NYLC, I realized I had the potential to bring about real change, starting within myself. That realization sparked a transformation. I became more confident, more action-oriented, and ready to take on any challenge. AIESEC gave me the platform to explore, grow, and, most importantly, get things done.  My ultimate goal was simple: make my VP proud. That motto kept me going, and knowing that I’ve achieved it makes everything worth it.  To anyone reading this who’s just turned 18, here’s my advice: *Join AIESEC.* You’ll discover a version of yourself you never knew existed and gain the tools to make a difference. #Q13: “DIVERSITY; THE MOSAIC OF HEARTBEATING IN THE MIDDLE EAST.” One of my most valuable lessons from doing business and living in the Middle East is based on experiences for understanding the importance of diversity. 👉 Differences between Western-type individualistic and Arabic collective business cultures need to be well understood. You can read the theories but living and having daily life, and abilities for “Learning by Doing” really makes sense. Already since 1989. After answering the questions "What" and "Why", you focus on the question "How". 👉 Learning experience is a beautiful mosaic of more than 100 different nationalities. Mosaic of culture, religions, history, business ethics, and the right ways to create mutual trust. 👉 Many different styles of leadership, empowering personal development and autonomy in team building. You just name it. ❓ Question: What are your 3 most important learnings and experiences for the heartbeats in the Middle East region?

In the past few days, I’ve got quite involved replying to a post by @BirteM.Harring on LinkedIn about whether people who speak two languages may unconsciously change their personality when they switch languages.  As someone who has lived and worked in several different countries and therefore come into contact with many different cultures, this post really got me thinking. Not just about myself, however, but also about my learners and the fact that I so often see the adoption of what might be termed a new persona (not personality, as you will understand if you read the post and comments in full) as posing an obstacle to their learning English.  This is why I believe that more than just a teacher, language learners now need language and communication coaches, who will accompany them on their language learning journey to present another persona to the world. Adopting another identity, or at least another facet to their personality, poses a major obstacle for many learners.  What do you think? But were the leadership skills instilled in me at that particular moment? At my High school level,I was passionate about Mathematical related subjects. I joined a Mathematics club which offered peer learning sessions, mentorship as well as team projects which led to personal growth in areas of leadership skills, communication skills and confidence building. Seeing my immediate impact of my efforts fueled my drive to do more . During my University levels, I took my passion of leadership to the next level by joining Taifa Teule Network where I gained intense training to become a solution provider to the various problems faced in the community and earned the right to speak in the community. But what was the most significant breakthrough? ➟I became part of leading a business fair project that sparked lots of quality of project outcomes which resulted in great impact to the community. The turning point in my journey came when I applied and was selected as a Global Youth Ambassador; representing my country on a global stage was exhilarating. →This opened my eyes towards amplifying the voice of the youth and driving global change! ┉ ┉ ┉┉ ┉ ┉┉ ┉ ┉┉ ┉ ┉┉ ┉ ┉┉ ┉ ┉┉ ┉ ┉┉ ┉ ┉ I continue unleashing the potential of the next generation; Creating opportunity for the marginalized through education Advocacy and creating innovative solutions that address the global education crisis. ➟Effective leadership and taking initiative are key to driving change. ➟Skills development is very key towards enhancing personal growth. ➟Remembering the core reasons behind your efforts will always keep you motivated. ➟Persistence and→ resilience are very crucial. ➟Your impact is amplified through a network of like minded individuals. Learn to Ask, Not Assume: Moving from Cultural Competence to Cultural Humility!!!   In today’s interconnected world, understanding and respecting cultural differences is vital. But there’s a shift happening—one that goes beyond cultural competence toward something more profound: cultural humility. It’s a call to learn, listen, and grow continuously, recognizing that we don’t have all the answers about others' lived experiences. What does it mean to embrace cultural humility? It means approaching others with curiosity, respect, and a willingness to listen. Rather than assuming, we ask. Rather than claiming expertise, we acknowledge that everyone’s perspective brings unique value. This isn’t a box to be checked; it’s a commitment to lifelong learning and adaptability. Here’s how you can practice cultural humility: 1. Ask, don’t assume – Cultures are nuanced, and people are unique. Show a genuine curiosity to learn, rather than presuming to know. 2. Listen with an open mind – Listening to understand, not respond, helps break down stereotypes and build trust. 3. Self-reflect regularly – Recognize your own cultural biases and challenge them. 4. Embrace the discomfort of unlearning – True growth often comes from challenging and rethinking our beliefs. Moving from cultural competence to humility is a journey, not a destination.
