The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Punjab of Punjab has issued a warning about potential flooding in the province's rivers over the next 24 hours, with high alert levels for certain areas. The PDMA spokesperson has indicated that there is a risk of a high-level flood in the Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad areas along the Chenab River. Floodwater in the Chenab River is projected to increase significantly, from 200,000 cusecs to 250,000 cusecs. The water level at Qadirabad Barrage on the Chenab is rising quickly due to water release by India, prompting the PDMA to advise residents in these areas to move to safer locations. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued an alert about rains with thunderstorms and gusty winds in most parts of the province from Thursday till Tuesday. According to PDMA, all Deputy Commissioners across the province have been directed to ensure precautionary measures to avoid any human and material losses during the forecast period. The Control Room of PDMA is fully operational and can be contacted by dialing 1700 in case of emergency. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has initiated a 20km storm drainage project to address severe flooding in Osubi, Ugolo-Okpe, Okuokoko, and surrounding areas. The drainage system includes underground and trapezoidal designs to effectively manage stormwater and mitigate seasonal flooding that has previously disrupted lives and hindered growth During an inspection of the project, Mr Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine), announced that the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2025. Mr. Aniagwu also commended the contractor’s efforts while urging faster completion to minimize disruptions. Other projects inspected by the Commissioner include; Esezi Road in Orerokpe and Orerokpe - Okuloho - Oviri-Okpe - Aragba-Okpe Road in Okpe Local Government Area. Additionally he inspected remedial works on the Old Abraka-Eku Road where he directed the contractor to ensure its completion within three weeks.
