This situation in Mazabuka hits close to home for me. Seeing the Chikankata Police Station submerged and a bridge underwater highlights just how critical disaster preparedness is for us as a nation.
We need to prioritize proactive planning and invest in resilient infrastructure. I strongly believe that an integrated approach, bringing together functions like National Planning, Ministry of Infrastructure & Housing, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), Road Development Agency, and other key stakeholders is the way forward.
Having vital facilities like a police station swallowed up in water isn’t just a structural issue; it’s a serious security risk. The same goes for our bridges, when they fail, they put lives and livelihoods at risk. Let’s push for real action and change bana bahesu.
