Diagnosing hemoglobinopathies and thalassemia involves a combination of clinical evaluation, complete blood count, and hemoglobin electrophoresis. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is increasingly recognized as a crucial confirmatory diagnostic tool due to its high resolution and sensitivity. CE separates different hemoglobin fractions based on their charge and size, allowing for precise identification of abnormal hemoglobins and quantification of variants. This technique enhances the differentiation between various types of thalassemia and hemoglobinopathies, facilitating accurate diagnosis, guiding treatment decisions, and improving patient management. Its rapid turnaround time and automation also contribute to more efficient laboratory workflows. https://lnkd.in/dH6qprPc Join this Webinar holding online on 13th November to learn more. 🤗

🔍 Cross-Matching Using the Gel Method 🧪 Introduction Blood compatibility is critical in transfusion medicine. The gel method revolutionizes cross-matching, ensuring safety and precision for patients who need blood transfusion. 🌡️ How It Works 🔸 Sample Preparation: Patient’s serum and donor’s red blood cells are mixed. 🔸 The Gel Card: A specialized card with microtubes containing gel and reagents is used. 🔸 Centrifugation: The gel acts as a filter, trapping agglutinated cells while non-agglutinated cells pass through. 🔸 Interpretation: Agglutination indicates incompatibility, while a clear pellet suggests compatibility. ✅ Advantages ✔️ Enhanced Sensitivity: Detects weak antibodies. ✔️ Speed & Automation: Reduces manual errors. ✔️ Standardization: Ensures consistent results. Conclusion The gel method stands out as a reliable tool in modern transfusion practices, combining accuracy with efficiency for optimal patient care. 🌟 ⚠️PLEASE ALWAYS FOLLOW THE SOP OF YOUR LOCAL HEALTHCARE PROVIDER⚠️ Stay Informed, Stay Healthy #CrossMatching #GelMethod #BiomedicalScience #BloodTransfusion #PatientSafety ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ I DO NOT OWN RIGHTS TO THIS VIDEO

Laboratory-developed tests (LDTs) are tests done on human samples such as blood, saliva, or tissue to check for diseases or health conditions [1]. They are designed by, manufactured in, and used in the same single clinical laboratory [2]. In vitro diagnostic tests are sold to diagnostic laboratories, clinics, and other users. They must be pre-validated. In contrast, LDTs are not licensed or sold and are often developed by a clinic out of necessity. LDTs have become increasingly more widely used than in the past and are now used to make important decisions about patient care. Read More Here: https://lnkd.in/gJdx-Sbu

🔻🔻Mastering the Order of Draw 🔻🔻 It's essential to remember the correct order of draw when collecting blood samples. The sequence in which we draw blood into different tubes isn't just protocol—it's a critical step to ensure the accuracy of diagnostic results. 🔹 **Blood Culture Tubes:** Always drawn first to avoid contamination. 🔹 **Coagulation (Blue Cap):** Drawn second to preserve the blood’s clotting factors, requiring precise inversion (4 times). 🔹 **Serum (Red Cap):** Drawn next, these tubes need 5-10 gentle inversions to ensure proper mixing of the clot activator with the blood. 🔹 **Heparin (Green Cap):** Followed by heparin tubes, requiring 5-10 inversions to prevent clotting. 🔹 **EDTA (Pink/Lavender Cap):** Typically used for hematology tests, these tubes require 8-10 inversions. 🔹 **Glycolytic Inhibitor (Grey Cap):** Last in the order, these tubes help preserve glucose levels, needing 5-10 inversions. By following these steps, we not only uphold laboratory standards but also ensure the reliability of the tests our patients rely on. Always remember, precision in every draw contributes to the bigger picture of patient care. #Phlebotomy #LabTech #HealthcareExcellence #PatientCare
