Ernest Hemingway once said, "As a writer, you should not judge, you should understand." And the same thing is true of grant writers and consultants. It's not my job to tell you what I think your project should be about. It's not my job to encourage you to change what you want to do to fit any particular grant. Instead, my job is to take plenty of time to understand your business and what you want to achieve, and use the knowledge that I gain to help you to navigate the grants environment effectively, finding and applying for opportunities that are right for you.

Grantors and foundations aren't looking for Ayn Rand in a grant writer—they're looking for e.e. cummings. Why? Because foundations don't want endless pages of lofty ideals and polysyllabic morphemes; they want clarity, nuance, and humanity. They want someone who can convey the heart of a project with simplicity, humility, and connection. Just like an e.e. cummings poem, a good grant proposal resonates because it tells a story that’s genuine, in the clearest way possible. As a grant writer, my job is to strip away the fluff, speak directly to the needs and outcomes, and let the heart of the work shine through. Because, at the end of the day, that’s what funders really want—to understand the impact they can help create.

Warning! 3 Toxic Habits That Will Tank Your Grant Proposals Are your grant proposals falling flat like a pack of cards? It's time to ditch these 3 toxic habits that are sabotaging your chances: 1. Stop wasting time on generic, one-size-fits-all proposals. Funders want to see that you've deeply understood their mission and can uniquely solve their problems. Tailor each application to their specific needs - it takes more work, but the payoff is worth it. 2. Be honest about your weaknesses. Don't gloss over gaps in your experience or resources. Acknowledge them honestly and demonstrate how you'll overcome them. Funders respect transparency and problem-solving skills more than perfection. 3. Stop obsessing over the "perfect" proposal. Perfection can be an enemy of progress - endless revisions delay your submission and signal self-doubt. Focus on getting a solid draft out the door, then refine from there. Quality matters, but don't let it paralyze you. Ditch these toxic habits, and watch your grant success skyrocket. The funding is out there - you just need to position yourself as the ideal candidate. So get laser-focused, get honest, and get it done. Your breakthrough opportunity awaits! Need help with your grant proposals? I created this “laptop lifestyle” of running a 6-figure grant writing firm back in 2018 for two reasons: 1. time-freedom 2. To be a caretaker for my parents Most of the time I write grants late nights or early mornings when the emails and phone calls slow down and it gives me the mental space I need to be creative. I need soft fabrics, candles, good snacks, and at times my music will be played at disrespectful levels so I can get into a groove. I can write you a million-dollar grant, but I gotta be comfortable in order to do so. I was intentional about building a team so they also had the time freedom to create the work environment they thrive in the most. I knew about 10 years ago that I would need to be a remote workers because my dad often faces health challenges. Most of the time he’s had to convalesce at home which put more work on my mom. Being the eldest and the only daughter, I made the radical decision 4 years ago to move back to Cleveland to care for my parents while also managing my Atlanta practice virtually. I’m able to write a grant in the waiting room before their appointments, and I can advocate for their care so doctors know they have support at home. It’s hard balancing the two. Very hard. But what I’m most proud of is that when I talk to my team members, they are also able to be more present in their family’s lives and they are happy they have the flexibility to write these wining grants wherever and whenever they want (and we’ve never missed a deadline!) Starting June, we are hiring! @serveuniversity will be looking for grant writers and administrative support for our operations in Cleveland and Atlanta. We are seeking experienced grant professionals who are self-motivators and who desire a flexible, remote work environment. Stay tuned for job postings to join our team! #serveuniversity #DrBrandi #grantwriter #grantwriting #training #cleveland #thisiscle #smallbusiness #nonprofit #atlanta #businessowner #grants

Applying for grants is often seen as time-intensive, complex, and uncertain. It doesn't have to be that way: 1/ Do your homework. Read all the documentation, attend briefings, and ask clarifying questions to the grant maker (without giving away your IP or advantage). 2/ Focus on the problem, not just your qualifications. Restate the challenge using the grantmaker's language in your writing. 3/ Outline your approach and how you'll engage stakeholders. Give them a reason to want to work with you (and be thrilled about it). 4/ Demonstrate excitement for the opportunity. Connect with the grantmaker and their mission, and make them want you on the shortlist. If you put in the effort to truly understand the grantmaker's needs, craft a compelling, client-focused response is simple. What are your top tips for standing out in grant applications? #GrantWriting #GrantManagement

Reflecting on my journey from government college to becoming an advocate, each stage has presented unique challenges and growth opportunities. From childhood to professional life, every phase has shaped me into the advocate I am today. However, it's in the arena of litigation and practice where the true essence of my role as a social engineer shines through, distinguishing it from the mechanical precision of other professions. Advocacy isn't merely about legal maneuvers; it's about understanding the nuances of society and navigating the complexities of human experiences. In every courtroom, I don't just represent clients; I stand as a voice for justice, striving to address the myriad of issues individuals face in their daily lives. Each day in this profession is a fresh beginning, a chance to make a difference. Recently, a Senior Adovcate reminded me of the importance of focusing solely on the present moment. Forget the past, don't worry about the future – concentrate on the here and now. It's through consistency, hard work, and patience that success in advocacy is achieved. As I continue this journey, I'm reminded of the profound impact advocates and attorneys have on society. We are the pillars of justice, the defenders of rights, and the catalysts for change. It's a privilege and a responsibility I carry with utmost dedication. In a world where challenges abound, advocacy remains a beacon of hope, offering solutions and striving for fairness. So, as I navigate through each case, I remain committed to upholding the principles of justice and serving as a beacon of hope for those in need. Every triumph, every setback, fuels my resolve to continue this noble pursuit. As an advocate, I am not merely a legal representative; I representing the interest of my clients in the court rooms and committed in making a difference ,and also ensure justice and fair trail is ensured. With Regards, Prashanth Subramanyam
