It’s #FireCommunityFriday 🔥🔥 This week we’re highlighting the Southeastern Cohesive Fire Strategy (SE Cohesive Strategy)! A section of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy, the SE Cohesive Strategy promotes collaboration and communication among diverse stakeholders to address complex problems in the southeast related to fire management. Some of those problems include social license for prescribed fire, smoke impacts on air quality, and safety. The SE Cohesive Strategy is a close partner of SFE. A recent collaboration of note was in the 2021 Southeast Prescribed Fire Training Needs Survey, which can be accessed through the links below. https://lnkd.in/gmQcA5ax https://lnkd.in/ggaykgjX We have also collaborated on workshops and webinars, and some are planned for the near future! As emergency planning professionals, we understand that complacency can be a significant challenge to effective response. That’s why continuous development of our training exercises is so important to me—it ensures that our responders are always prepared to support our communities during emergencies. Recently, we’ve been exploring a more interactive and scenario-based approach to training. I had the opportunity to spend time with our colleagues at Lancashire Fire and Rescue, learning about their use of simulation tools like #FireStudio. Their expertise has been instrumental in guiding us as we look to integrate more realistic and engaging scenarios into our training sessions. It was a great experience to see how other teams approach their training, and I’m looking forward to incorporating these insights into our work. A huge thank you to the team at LFRS for their time and support. I’m always keen to learn from others in our field—what have you found most valuable when developing training exercises? Any tips or lessons learned you’d like to share? #EmergencyPlanning #Training #ProfessionalDevelopment #Teamwork #EmergencyResponse #Resilience #DisasterPreparedness #CommunitySafety

The latest ITACET lunchtime lecture (evening for us) will be on Health and Safety lessons from recent projects in collaboration with ITA-AITES WG5. When? July 9th at 9 pm AEST The last decades have shown an increasing number of incidents in tunnels during construction which has outlined the need for fire and rescue operations under atypical conditions. Thus, emergency managements needs to be an integral part of the Health and Safety measures on tunnel construction sites. It is of the utmost importance to include emergency response organizations as early as possible, starting in the planning phase. Tunnel construction sites or similar subsurface structures e.g. hydro power plants, with their complex network of tunnels, cross passages and caverns, call for specific considerations and in-depth knowledge of emergency organizations, emergency procedures, smoke management and other risks which might occur during the construction phase. The characteristics of fire and smoke spread in tunnels under construction are different from those in tunnels under operation, due to the more confined space. Escape routes can therefore be long and ventilation can be challenging. Free registration below
