On May 14th, a pivotal gathering took place, marking a monumental stride in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. The meeting convened by EMFAI, the Electric Mobility Financiers Association of India, brought together key players from the e-rickshaw and EV financing industry to drive the e-rickshaw revolution forward. The impact of e-rickshaws goes beyond transportation. With each vehicle benefiting around 10 individuals, including the driver, their family, financiers, manufacturers, and ecosystem partners, the potential for positive change is immense. Imagine the impact when 30 lakh rickshaws are financed - 3 crore people benefiting from it! E-rickshaws have not only democratized employment opportunities but have also empowered marginalized communities, including the handicapped, to earn a livelihood. The purpose of the meeting was clear: to effectively grow the EV industry. Bringing together EMFAI and EVMS - with 100+ and 35+ members respectively - was a strategic move towards achieving this goal. Their role is crucial in maintaining the sector's dynamism and competitiveness, making them indispensable to India's economic growth and stability. On the occasion of #WorldMSMEDay 2024, we recognize the indispensable role of MSMEs in the transition to electric vehicles (#EVs). As we fight climate change, these enterprises are at the forefront of the EV revolution, producing critical components and driving technological advancements. Ignoring their contributions would undermine our efforts to achieve a sustainable and inclusive #emobility future. Their agility and innovation are crucial for the success of this transition. Keeping MSMEs as key stakeholders in the #EVtransition is essential for ensuring a #justtransition from both technological and socio-economic perspectives. MSMEs not only foster innovation but also create numerous job opportunities, supporting the livelihoods of millions. MSMEs must remain competitive and integral to the automotive sector, contributing to a greener and more resilient economy. Dedicated policy and fiscal support, in the areas of #technologyupgradation and #skilldevelopment, are necessary to help MSMEs adapt to the changing demands of the e-mobility transition.
